Seriously? For $62 and you're questioning it? Think about the tool storage you can get for $62. Not much. It's a homeowners grade box, but will suit that just fine.

I have had one for over 10 years. As long as you don't overload the drawers, they will last a long time. When I got them they were my primary boxes for over 5 years. Now they hold stuff I use infrequently. Very good for a lighter user.

For the price you could use the box for cleaning supplies and still come out miles ahead. Great price for a decent box overall.

While I think the quality of the Cman boxes has gone down in the past few years, I think that purchase is a no brainer. I think you could double your money with out even trying.

For $62,

Buy it.

I paid around $300 IIRC a couple years ago and thought I was getting a smoking deal. It works fine and I don't baby it. The only problem I've had it the quiet glide slides are a PIA to remove. I removed all the drawers to move all my tools into my new garage and messed up a couple of the stops.

Make sure to inspect it and see if it's got damage impacting the functionality.

Sometimes the stuff on the Sears Outlet site is just clearance, but sometimes it's damaged goods. If it's just cosmetic damage or a no-box floor display, no biggie...but if one side is buckled in from being hit by a fork truck, you've got a problem.

:+1: x 2 All the drastically clearanced boxes I have seen in person at our local stores look like they were dropped off the truck at speed then ran over by a few following cars.

Whether you need it or not buy it. Then sell of you want.

Bad idea...Craftsman stuff is un-resalable. Once you buy it your stuck with it..2 options to get rid of Craftsman stuff, A) Pay someone to haul it off B) Scrap it with your local scrapper.

Don't put your sockets and big a$$ wrenches in it. Make it specialty drawers...multi meter, batter cable tools, electrical stuff, measuring devices, etc.

I'd get it.

Lol. not out here. Cman is easier to sell and MUCH BETTER resale than SO. My buddy and I have literally been running errands, check CL, pic up a Cman box on the cheap, re-list it with the POs photos, and sold it before we got home. More than doubled our money.

Out here someone would buy that box for $150 all day.

So, I guess it's where you are type thing.

Dave's right. I don't like Craftsman boxes because they fall apart -- but my tools are all really heavy and the drawers end up overloaded big time. The slides fall apart. If you can keep the drawers under the maximum load (which is something ridiculous like 25 pounds on a 26" box), you'll have a good box that'll last awhile. For $62, I'd give it a shot no question.

For a DIYer my Cman Quiet Glides seem to work okay. It's the gauge of the sheet metal that's disappointing. I've replaced with HF 4 and 5 drawer carts. However, for 62 bucks I'd buy it for sure.

Didn't need it.

Bought it and gave it to my dad. :)

My local is clearing out the quiet glide stuff. 26" roller AND top box is about $90. I'm tempted.

I don't know about the newer stuff, but my older Quiet-Glide box is really sturdy, and the drawers work fine, even though they are often overloaded.

For $62 that's a no brainer, jump on it.

I had a quiet glide 26" top, middle, and bottom box gifted to me when I first started wrenching. Good starter box. I turned it into my miscellaneous/specialty tools box after a while. It'll hold up OK even if you overload the drawers, but they will be a bit of a pain to open and close. They will droop noticeably as well. Watch out for the drawer trim, it likes to loosen and slide off of the drawers, scratching the sides of the box when you close the drawer.

Probably fair to say where you are...And I suppose also depends on what kind of seller you're dealing with. I'm trying to unload a 42" 6 drawer Craftsman Base cab, all ball bearing, not new, not shot to hell...decent straight toolbox. What would you give me for my box? (Of course lets assume you lived next door to me type thing)....I want the base cab gone...I'd like to keep the top box for sentimental reasons, but for the right price they could both disappear.

********.

Unless of course you're joking, then

Kinda serious...I mean sure, I could list my Cman box for 100.00 on CL and it would sell...but for 100.00 I'll just keep it. That's how I meant it...in other words, not that you CANT sell it, but the price you'll get for it probably is so minimal its worth more keeping it around to throw junk in, etc..

From a Consumer/Political/Business History Buff kinda frame of mind...goes to show how far the Craftsman name has gone to **** when people post "Should I buy this new top cab for pennies on the dollar"....15-20 years ago I and most of the GJ Members woulda bought that top box without batting an eye and we would have been posting "You ****" comments to the lucky guy who took it home..today, I personally wouldn't buy it, and we aren't seeing any "You *****"

In Oregon, at least, Craftsman 26" triple-stack combos regularly get listed for ~$250 and disappear pretty darned quick. Considering they sell for ~$300 new, they hold their value pretty well, and move pretty quick.

What would a 42" stack like mine go for? I want to see if I priced myself too high..
But I'm in the "if it sells great...if not...f-it" frame of mind. I really don't NEED it gone...just want it gone so I can free up room for whatever other box I can find that tickles my fancy when the time comes...I've got plenty of storage cabinets for my tools in the interim.

I think your price is WAY high. Pretty obvious you really don't want to sell it. Just my honest opinion.

I have bought 2 40" rollers, (2 bank), one Husky (MAC really) and one Cman. Both BB, 1990s quality. I paid $119 and $120. My kind of deal. I'd put them on CL for $250 plus.

I really like your 42, because of single drawers, and I'd pay 150+/200-, and thats only b/c it's harder to find than 2 bay. I'd ask 350 for it out here and come on down. 300, maybe 275. BTW...I bought a single bay SO 40" for $270 (little banged up, but did not affect the function)

But I'm also in a highly populated area with no rust, so I have more to choose from then most, and I watch CL like a hawk for deals.

In fact, if I buy any more boxes, they will only be Vidmar/Lista or 40"+ single bays. I hate 2 and 3 bay boxes (B/C my home shop, everything is stationary).

I'm interested in why you aren't interested in keeping that.

The thing about your box Dave is that all the drawers (bottom box) are all full width. Somewhat of a rarity to find those atleast around here.

Hey, I value that opinion..I'm definitely not one of those guys who gets all bent and "offended" when it comes to financial haggling or whatever you want to call it. What I'm asking and what I'll take are 2 different things. IMO the minute you write "Firm" on a CL add, most buyers wont call.

In fact, if I buy any more boxes, they will only be Vidmar/Lista or 40"+ single bays. I hate 2 and 3 bay boxes (B/C my home shop, everything is stationary).

I've outfitted my shop with "Lista Type" 40"+ Single bays...I say Type because they aren't Lista's...Heavy Duty and extremely well built, yes...but don't have the Lista/Vidmar branding.

Why I don't like it...Drawer config. Why I bought it originally was because it was single bay.."I didn't want tiny useless drawers" and on a 42" box that's probably still true, but with a 56" or wider box, it becomes nice. I hate the drawer depth on my box. I'd REALLY like a MAC MB1860, tons of shallow drawers. Why I've kept it this long...didn't have room for a bigger box in my attached garage. Now that I've officially moved into my new garage, I've got room for any boxes I want.

The thing about your box Dave is that all the drawers (bottom box) are all full width. Somewhat of a rarity to find those atleast around here.

Sound like single width drawers is a hit or miss/love hate thing..

I got one of those a lil while ago at a local mall Sears store. When attempting to load it into my car it was realized that it would not simply fit with the box included. The Sears employee and myself opened up the crisp and undamaged box to see that a whole side of the toolbox was caved in. Obvioulsy somebody somewhere seen that it was damaged and only then placed it into the cardboard box.

buy it and install some ball bearing sliders down the road.

Again...a whole other aspect...assuming its possible...buying the parts to do that will probably cost more then just buying the Ball Bearing box new from the get go.
Tripping over dollars to pick up pennies.

I have a older Made in the USA Craftsman box and cart with Quiet-Glide and I love it. The drawers pull smooth as silk and they stay where you want them. I keep them lubed with Boeshield and they've been good for over 10 years. I don't know how Quiet-Glide is on the newer Craftsman boxes (the one where the word CRAFTSMAN emblem is in the square black box), but if it's like the older boxes, where there's no box around the word CRAFTSMAN, it should be fine.

I paid $180 new for mine and I thought I overpaid for it (complete junk compared to my older MasterForce bottom; Same goes for any box Craftsman currently sells). I'll be replacing it with a HF one soon. For $62, I'd pick it up and use it as auxilary storage but I wouldn't use it as my main box.
