This should be simple, but I can't figure it out. My Dad had some block and tackles, all made similar to these two.
I have a great use for one now, hoisting something about 150# up for storage.
They all have a locking mechanism (a cam lock I'd call it) and I get it to hoist and mechanism holds the rope...but how do you release it???
Last picture I'm pointing in direction I was thinking you pulled it, but that just makes it lock tighter on the long pull rope!
Anyone familiar, thanks in advance!20210522_170823.jpg20210522_170842.jpg20210522_170936.jpg20210522_170954.jpg

If memory serves me correct, pull the lock out away from the block releases it and pulling the lock in towards the other rope locks it.

You’ll need to have a load on your main hook to set lock. While in the hoist/raise mode, just pull the rope about 30 to 40 degrees to set lock. Kinda works like a Venetian blind that’s on many older homes windows!

Thanks. It was like a Chinese finger puzzle!
With spray lube and putting it in vice, it has to have tension to work, pulling rope out away from it locks rope in place. With rope in close to other ropes releases catch letting rope out.
Thanks!20210522_180240.jpg

Wow, I haven't seen a Dunlop block and tackle in probably 50 years. My Dad had a pair of them set up in our carport to lift our sailboat up to the ceiling for winter storage. He had a temporary framework to actually hold the boat up there but I spent all too much time pulling on that rope.
