My world is currently crumbling. In a rush to get shop done before daughters graduation party. Lights are not working the way I thought they would. Builder installed the blue round light fixture boxes in the ceiling and standard led tube shop lights do not cover up the hole and my wife is not happy with it. So I switched to add 2‘ x 2‘ IBE led light with 15,000 Lumen. My shop is 36 x 36 x 12’ high. There are nine fixtures in the ceiling.

Is this light with 15,000 lm it’s just gonna be way too bright, or way too much overkill? I do not have a problem spending $1000 on white, I do have a problem wasting $1000 on a unnecessary lighting.

What other options would you guys recommend for covering up the hole and lighting up my shop, this is not a working shop.

Here are some 12 lights at 12 000 lumen in a shop that's 35' wide x 70' long with 13' ceilings.

I feel the lighting would be slightly brighter, but its hard to say how much brighter.

I didn't take the photos, and I have yet to see them at night, but it looks like I should have gone with the 15 000 in this shop.

Let me double check the specs on the lights to make sure what they are.
Edit: confirmed, these are 12 000 lumens with a 4k color temp. Here is a home depot.com link for them

Sent from my new phone. Autocorrect may have changed stuff.

They're way overkill from 12'. We would use them at 15' or higher to achieve a light level suitable for a working environment where detail is important, like an assembly line. They're equivalent to a 400w Metal Halide fixture, if that helps. For a standard garage or a graduation party, they'll be harsh and uncomfortable.
You can put them on a dimmer, however, and bring them down to whatever level you like. It's not hard to do. Or, you can get the same thing in different lumen package, like 10,000-ish.

Another option to cover up the hole would be surface wraps. They'll be wide enough to cover the boxes. Surface mount flat panels will, too.

IMHO, 15,000 lumens is high bay Industrial Bright. If I remember correctly, it is the amount of light emission required to provide 15,000 foot candles. I recall someone measuring the light on my desk at grade school, it was very bright at 100 Foot Candles.

OK, thread #2 on same topic.

Qty.9 of IBE 15LM yields 82fc @ 30" work plane.

Average office is 40fc. Detailed mechanical work = 93fc.

Based on your stated use, 82fc is more than you need. However, these fixtures are dimmable, so you could just install a 0-10VDC dimmer and set it to your preference and know that if you want more light, it's available at the touch of a button.

Also worth noting that the IBE is not flush with surface mountable (link to spec sheet)

I really liked the lights, but not being flush with the ceiling exposed the cut outs.

Thank you for your help, sorry about the excessive posts.

At 12' up, even if not flush with ceiling, it's possible that you won't be able to see the junction box.
