how can i identify india - gedore tools?

Well, as you all know, i am replacing my Stahlwille tools, which got taken from me with second hand Gedore tools.. i was entirely certain that this was a clever move on my side until i was made aware of the fact that India had a Gedore plant too.. my first thought upon learning that was, ''OH POOP!'' Or in German, ''scheisser!''..

Now i am at a point where i do not want to be sitting with any Gedore - Bombay metals in my box.. so it is that i ask you guys with a pinched **** sphincter, ''how do i identify these mechanical curry tools from a trusted German or South African manufactured quality tool?''..

From what I have seen in the past if they came from India they were stamped "India" on the tool; mind you that was a long time ago.

There's always been a ton of used Gedore India combo wrenches around here at flea markets, etc.. I have no idea what retailer sold them but they are always stamped India and are very thin. Unfortunately there aren't tons of their quality German counterparts around.

The Gedore website states tools are market specific. So in the EU dealers will sell tools of European manufacture.

I received a Gedore combo wrench set for x-mas back in the early 80's. They all have India cast into them. I used them for years without any problems. Certainly, they aren't top quality tools, but they aren't the worst tools that I've used. I've since replaced them with vintage Craftsman wrenches, but one or two still get used from time to time.

All of the Gedore/India tools that I've seen were clearly marked as such.

All the Gedore India wrenches I've seen were clearly stamped "India" on them.
I bought one thinking they were a quality brand without noticing it was made in India. It was one of the worst wrenches I have ever owned. The steel was maybe one grade harder than pure lead. I was able to bed a wrench into a "U" shape using my bare hands.
I would not even use them in a JY toolbox.

Thanks guys.. for a moment i was a bit nervous there.. but none of my tools are stamped INDIA, so i am at ease now..

General test - put the wrench into the sunlight for about 1 hour. If it melts, it's made in India Seriously, the Gedore's made in India are clearly stamped as such.

The Gedore factory in India closed in 1986 so you most likely won´t find any new indian Gedore tools anymore.
Since you are located in South Africa the Gedore tools available at your local tool store should all (mostly ?) be made in RSA (except pliers, they´re made in Austria for the world market)
