How can I remotely open these mini-blinds?

My living has a bay window (pic below). The mini-blind wands are very difficult to reach, so I need to get some method of opening them remotely. I have access to the blinds from above, so I can easily run wires or even cables, to the blinds. I also have wall space to mount the controls across the room, so I don't need a hand-held remote. I'm just looking for something simple.

Typically for this kind of operation I use the tried and true method.

I yell real loud and one of the parasites comes and does my bidding, I figure this method should work for 4 or 5 more years and then I will have to hope that the parasites have bread and I will have a new batch of parasites that will do my bidding.

Man, $80 each....it never was suggested our members are frugal, only that we know a way...costly or not, if that fixes the problem, it's gold!

Are you looking for something that just makes the slats in the blinds rotate open and closed, or are you looking for something that makes the blinds go all the way up and down?

You said that the wands are hard to reach, so that suggests that you only want to be able to control the slats rotating open and closed.

Would longer wands help you? If you got those you could swing them out a bit towards the bottom and rest them in some small hooks in the window opening for easy access. That would make them easier to reach.

If you are looking to open the blinds all the way up or down, they sell blinds that don't use any pull strings or wands at all. You just push up or pull down on the bottom of the blind and it will stay in the position you put it.

They don't have traditional slats, but are made up of material that lets some light in but not direct sunlight. They have an accordion shape to the material that folds up onto itself as you push the blinds up to open them.

They are not terribly expensive, and I have a few in my house that the previous owner put up. They work great. And the best part is that they look nice up or down, and would be perfect for a window like you have shown.

Jim, thanks for suggestions. I am just looking to rotate the wands. I found the perfect little gadgets. Very clever. Here's the link:

Hi from Blinds.com! We can recommend some inexpensive motorized blinds and shades if you want to replace yours.

These shades are just about the most affordable motorized shades on the market. You get what you pay for quality-wise, but the jump from this to the other motorized options is pretty wide. https://www.blinds.com/p/blindscom-economy-light-filtering-cordless-cellular-shade/503419

If you really want to retrofit your existing blinds, we've seen some cool after market motorization systems in kickstarter. Search "blinds motorization" and they should come up. We haven't tried any, so we can't officially endorse them, but the concepts look interesting.

If you have any other questions, reach out at [email protected].

I've always wanted blinds in my bedroom that would open/close on a schedule. Fully closed at night to keep exterior light out and have the blinds open shortly before I wake up in the morning.
