How close is your shop to your house?

I am about to start construction on our new house and my shop. We are gonna have a side garage entrance on the house and I want my shop somewhat close to the house. I would like the concrete to connect the two. I am wanting to see some of your pics where you have your shop compared to the house. We are not limited to how far or close it has to be.

Thanks in advance

Would like your Pics.......

If I had a side-load garage, my shop would share the same concrete pad, with shop door 90º to garage door.

Mine is behind the house, as in this pic:

Maybe 40-50 feet from garage side door to shop entrance.

Mine's 200'. I should've put it closer (and turned it 90-deg)... but farther back allows more **** to sit outside and the neighbors can't see.

Unfortunately mine is about 500 feet away and across the street until I can afford to build a new garage on the same lot as my house. I wouldn't mind the walk but I usually ride the quad over in case I need to get back to the house quickly to **** or something. It's easy to get engrossed in a project and forget you need to allow for travel time to reach the facilities.:eek7:

It will also depend on building codes. My shop had to be a min of 20' from my house, probably due to if there was a fire. I set mine right at 22'

Mine is about 100' and I think that is about perfect. Far enough to make noise late into the night and not disturb anyone, plus it's a nice walk.

This describes my situation to a 'T'. The distance is close enough to run back to the house for a meal, bathroom break, or whatever, but far enough away to provide both a physical and mental separation.

Make sure you consider the costs and ability to provide your detached garage with wet and dry utilities (power, water, sewer, gas, cable/internet/phone). This assumes you want these modern conveniences in your shop. The further away, the higher your costs, and grade may preclude sewer or require a pump.

We built our home, shop, and dug our pond at just about the same time. I planned things over and over in my mind. I put the shop 75 ft and angled to the house. It's been perfect for me.

about 500' away you can just see it off the right corner in pic....trip is shorter if I take the shortcut across the yard that I tell my son not to do(trying to grow grass)

We are in the middle of nowhere so it could have been closer and not matter but it is big at 60' wide and did not want it to be such a visual as you drive up.. The attached garage seemed to have created this issue as we had to turn it 90 degrees due to site work issues and constructability of the new house. Initial intent was to hve the garage gable end facing out ad the entire footprint rotate about 30 degrees counter clockwise to allow for a courtyard type design in front of the house. after a lot of debate and sketches we could not pull it off with out a lot more cost involved..

About 500' and shielded by trees, people that only come to the house never know I have a shop.

235' corner to corner, just far enough that you get soaked when trying to run to the house in the rain but close enough that my wife's voice will still reach.
