How Deep are tool boxes?

This Craftsman is 18" deep. I wouldn't mind something a little deeper but I'm not to familiar. With them.

Kind of like a teenager looking at girls. I know a good looking one when I see it, but I don't know much about them.

The deeper the better.

thats what she said....

There are some compromises to make, and what a deeper box is worth is dependent upon you.
I have a bunch of 22" boxes and that works for me as my bench is 26". If I had a 36" bench I would want 30" drawers under it.

Under a bench then grab a 30" if you can, they usually don't have as much demand, as it takes 5ft of open space to open a drawer, 30 for the box 24 for the drawer.

I have a Matco 4S that is 24", a Cornwell that is 24", a CSPS that is 22" and a Homak that is 20".

If you are diligent, you can find a decent deal on a Matco box on Craigslist, OfferUp or FB marketplace. Cornwell's are much more rare and Snap On boxes are apparently made of gold so they are $$$.

Also pay attention to how far the drawer opens. Some of the bargain boxes do not have full extension drawers. It can be a pain if 4-6" at the back of the drawer is hidden within the box.

My snapon epiq on order is 30" deep. If you have the room the deeper boxes allow you to put longer things like torque wrenches and breaker bars in the drawer perpendicular instead of parallel. The capacity of a 36" wide x 30" deep snapon epiq side cabinet is really close to the capacity of a 55" x 24" deep classic series box.

Depending on your budget for a used tool truck box find out how much the boxes are actually selling for off the truck. You can usually ask around the various tool truck face book pages to get an idea of the selling price for a particular box. For snapon 1/2 to 2/3rd's of retail is what a good deal on a new box off the truck goes for when it's on sale with rebates and the driver wants it gone. My coworker got a new KMP1023 for $7k off the truck, it stickers at $14 or $15k. Usually financing a box gives you a $1k+ rebate and you can pay it off the next week without getting hit with interest. When buying a higher dollar tool truck box make sure it's paid off. A call to the brands finance division with the serial number will confirm if it's paid off. If it's not paid off and the seller says they are going to use the proceeds to pay off the box see if the seller will meet you with his driver and allow you to pay the amount owed directly to the truck and anything left to the seller.

Snapon a masters series can be 29" or 24" deep, all epiq are 30" deep. All Classic series boxes are 20 or 24" deep, the masters have vertical trim on the front, the classics don't. There's a lot of snapon boxes out there listed for more than you can buy them right off the truck hoping people will think half of retail is a good deal.

Tool trucks can be a good source for used boxes as well. They take a lot of trade ins on bigger boxes and will sometimes make a decent deal on a used box especially if it's not the brand of the truck.

I still believe www.Strictlytoolboxes.com is the best deal if looking for now and new. I have the 55"x30" box in orange and it has more storage by a landslide than my 72" USG box I had. Then it all comes down to would you prefer a deeper box or a longer but shallower box.lights2.jpg

You can just see it in the back there. Vidmars are nice too and I have that as well but a good deep toolbox is hard to beat.

I definitely want to go deep. The deeper the better. I haven't had much time to shop yet.

You would think after looking a little bit I would be inundated with tool box pop ups

Very nice, what is the width/ length of that
72x30. It's actually 2 36" Epiq end cabinets put together with a drawer section and a "work center" aka hutch. They had them as a package deal at the snapon expo in August. If you were to order one you have to order all the pieces. I have a list of the part numbers somewhere if you need it.

If you use Duck Duck go for a search engine you don't have to deal with pop-up ads quite as much.
