Sorry, I call b/s. I could buy you got the box for a grand with no tools, or maybe even that you did get that deal, but when you said you got another deal on par with that, I ain't buying it.

I've been on CL daily for the last 8+ years and never saw a deal remotely like that, let alone two.

Perhaps he found two people selling another persons stuff; -you know, out from under them while they're temporarily not around. I haven't experienced this , not that I know of anyway. I imagine there are low life's out there whom would do such a thing.

I have heard of it during divorces...they can get petty and bad.

I can understand that but it is 100% true. The $800 black box deal was a bit frowned apon when I posted it last time. The guy was on some sort of illegal substance and was wanting money for his next hit was my assumption of why he was selling. What would you of done? Walked away from it? It was too much for me to pass up.

I don't know maybe, I might of walked, I guess I'd have to be there. What a major mistake...sad really.

He would have just sold it to someone else I expect..Right, kind of puts you in that spot. Still, -not sure I would feel good about it.

I'm gonna have to be a little more ballsy and start trying to get these kind of deals since there's so many boxes and tools on CL around here.

Exactly. Over the phone he told me he was going to take it to a pawn shop tomorrow and sell it all for $1000. Either way someone was going to end up with a great deal so why not me? I still wonder how he ended up but it makes me never want to get mixed up in anything like that.

I have a friend that simply made friends with all the "crackheads" (as he called them), they will sell you tools when they need money for a ridiculous price. I always worried they were stolen, but he scored some good deals. I guess someone will buy them regardless, so what the hell.

This toolbox I also found on craigslist, very vague listing such as, snap-on toolbox with tools $9000. No picture. Yes, the list price was $9000.
Long story short, showed up planning to just buy some tools, ended up buying toolbox and all the tools. Had to load the toolbox in back of my truck, still no idea how we got it in there. NOT Stolen.
Dun dun dun, the price...
$800 bucks.

I could see if they listed them for what you bought and you were first to respond, but as I stated ... people in Arkansas must be different. I surprised that a "crackhead" could keep it together long enough to amass those tools let alone keep them organised.

Hopefully I'm not saying too much about the story. His story was that he was a diesel tech in California, lost his job (due to drugs maybe?), and had to move back home. He was staying in a shed behind his family's trailer....

Still different, and after the read I wouldn't give either seller a job, not to hijack the thread.

I always assume it is and planned to run the serial when I got there but he had all the paperwork on it and it's 100% legit.

So I'm guessing you own a pawn shop?

No I do not. I'm an individual, going to college, working part time, and snagging great deals on the side. Also have a love for tools and that's how I ended up here!

So, how would I, the average guy like you, go about running the serial?

A friend of ours works for the police department and I would just give him the serial or ask if any toolboxes reported stolen. The black box was not checked before purchase since it was spur of the moment but thankfully it all worked out.

He/she drops everything to run serial numbers ... people in Arkansas are REAL different.
