How did I successfully misuse (and not abuse) a tool today?

Made what is known as “Pepper Sauce” which in the South means Peppers in Vinegar and not Tabasco, Crystal or Frank’s Hot Sauce type, thick versions.

To seal the bottles one uses Shrink Wrap Capsules and there are lotsa suggestions for the easiest/quickest/best way to shrink the wrap. I settled on steam. Needed to keep the Hot Water Kettle open and still have two aged hands free. What better tool than a C-Clamp!

The Result? Colorful, tasty Holiday Givings.

Found the Alfred Lilly Auger several years ago. Had no use for it, but it was within budget and cool. Misused it once in a fit of desperate need as a backyard post hole digger. That moment has extended to years of regular augering because it works quite well.

Pretty much the same thing occurred with the Hammer from the Coal Region of PA. Similar need and it simply looked like a suitable tool for the job.

Great way to clean the rust off of it. Great way to dull the cutting edge too. DAMHIKT.

Guess it doesn't auger well for the future if I wanna make a big hole in a piece of wood? At 100+ years old I think it's satisfied to have a job that it can do efficiently, just like I am in my 80th year. My edges aren't so sharp anymore, either.

I have used old worn-out wood augers to bore holes in dirt for many years now. It started when I had to bore a hole under a sidewalk to run a drain line from a basement. I've even welded steel rod extensions on the shanks. It takes a pretty strong electric drill for a larger auger.

Always know where to find a Pipe Wrench. Keep 'em functional, just in case of . . . uh . . . something.
