I used my tractor and 3 point auger. How many holes we talking ?? I would
get prices. Neighbor was doing fencing and got a guy with Bobcat to do it for him. Guy had a hydraulic auger and it was awesome. All holes were balls on.
Having right machine for job .

None of the above.
I was adding on a lean to addition, the way the hill sloped down and I had about 6' of fill. I had my buddy come by with the drilling rig and drill 18" piers about 15' deep. No problem at all! haha :D

The tractor was going to be too slow with no down pressure. I used a friends skidsteer and rented a auger head. It was very fast and easy to keep on track.

Sandy soil here, a big shop vac works wonders! (seriously, I've done about 10 4-5 ft holes with that vacuum now.

When I worked in that biz for one summer we had a hydro powered auger attachment for a backhoe. Worked great and was far faster to locate than a three point.

Having grown up in the central upper peninsula of Michigan I am familiar with large rocks. Digging a four foot deep hole by hand is an all day affair. They generally end up three or four feet in diameter with not enough soil to fill the hole after placing the pole.

damn touchy laptop, I accidently clicked on the 3 pt tractor.

I used a 2 man power auger when I did the three fro the garage apron and all the posts for the front porch. Although it's not a pole bldg, it's the same thing. It was work but better than by hand.

I couldn't find anyone to bore them for me and dang if I was gonna do it with a shovel so I rented a skid steer and an 18" auger. They dropped off the bucket with it so I was able to get a lot of other stuff done around the property also. I think I paid a little over $300 for the weekend (8 hours clock time). Well worth it!!
