In my pics are 3 drive extensions. The 1\8" fits thru red top piece with about 1\64" clearance.

True, but that locking is not permanent and we've all removed nuts with loctite.

There's high strength loctite that will be "permanent" without heat on that size fastener.

That doesn't look like a drive extension to me. If that's all you have then so be it.

If the wood don't work ill drill out the hole for 1\2" drive extension.

Don't do this, more likely to leak.

Try calling a furnace tech.

I'm almost positive the filter on our fuel oil tank is not designed like that.

Maybe the best thing to do would be swap out the entire filter assembly so as to not have this issue again.

I’m with Hohn on this. This design is fundamentally bad. Rather than try to work with a bad design, you should replace this with something that doesn’t ****.

I don't see a 1/8". I did look it up and it seems they are made but very small. 1/4" is the smallest commonly available. The extension is marked 3/8" in the pic. Looks like 3/8 and 1/2. And some small flex handle - maybe 1/4".

Did it. Drilled out top hole from 0.390 to 0.451 to take rachet extension which is 0.450 dia.
Didn't use lock washer.
However it didn't work because of socket & extension wiggle. So then i drilled out upper lid hole from 0.451 to 0.466 and h6at gave lid enough wiggle room to fit flat.

Thanks all
