How do I frame this? (raised Ceiling Hip Roof)

I have the ceiling joists going as far as I can go, and the jack joists as far as I can go. I could fit maybe 1 more jack joist if I go with a 2x4 but thats it. anyone have any diagrams on how this should be framed? or am i just not seeing how the sheets will fit in there and I am done for now?

I think you have to follow your ceiling line to where it hits the ridge rafter in the corner.

yeah that is what I was thinking. I just don't know how to frame that. Aside from coming out of the corner between the jack joist and the ceiling joist on a 45 right into the ridge rafter. I know I can fit one more each way with a 2x4. Maybe I will do that and see how close that gets me.

Run a 2x6 or 2x8 diagonally from your new framing into the hip rafter at ceiling height then tie the short members fron each remaining rafter into that. Think of that hip being pulled down flat to help visualize.

That makes perfect sense....Thanks. I thought I finally estimated the lumber right for once. I did the whole garage and had a 2' chunk of 2x6 left over. I guess I was wrong since I need more 8' 2x6's now.

By the way this has to be one of the best forums out there.

Well its the one on each corner that is left.

The garage had no ceiling, just 4 collar ties. Which made it pretty impossible to frame. Plus it had a ridge vent but nothing as far as soffit vents and it would get hot as hell in there. I needed to build some way to insulate it as well as raise the ceiling up so I can really get my truck up there on the jack stands (old ceiling height was just under 8' with the conduit mounted on the collar ties)

Ill finish up the framing this weekend, and get the insulation in. Then I just need to sheath it, clean up, and enjoy.

I've vaulted dozens of ceilings. An extra foot or two makes a big difference. My current garage has a 14' ceiling and staircase going to attic above. I'm in the process or building a new house and garage. New garage has 9' ceiling....no lift in my immediate future! Will be building a detached shop later tho.

I'm so glad I found this thread! I'm looking to do the same thing in my garage so I can insulate. I haven't started framing yet, but spent the better part of an hour tonight out in the garage racking my brain on how to frame the corner. Would love to see some pictures of your framing and the finished job!

I want to do a tray ceiling like vartz04. My walls are just under 8' I need around 9' so I can at least get my truck on Jack stands.
