Go–kart hub. The nut is off, but does it slide off or unscrew?

Thanks in advance.

Its probably a shaft with a key. Try a 3 jaw puller and gently see if it want to move.

That's after you make sure theres no circlip, set screws, etc.

They are keyed shafts. Make sure there are no set screws and you could try beating it off but I'd suggest a suitable puller if you have one. Another method is remove it 100% and use wood or a vise or....to support the hub then use a brass hammer or drift to drive the axle out

Soak first with a penetrant. Be sure it is a penetrant. Look in end for a key way. If found, heat in a linear fashion along the key way. It will enlarge in a manner similar to opening a closed fist. A puller is next, but it may bend the flange from the force required. Placing metal behind the flange to pull on may help this. Use a three arm puller.

Thanks guys. There is a key...pretty stuck. Not willing to reef on it yet. Soaking in PB. Might need a bigger 3 jaw.

Keep pressure on it with the puller.
You can leave it there for several days of needed.
Hit the side of the hub with a hammer to apply shock, not beating on it.
The shock can help break rust bonds

Without looking too far down what happens when you unbolt the two bolts on the flange near the frame .

Didn’t get it off. I did get the other side off, which has the brake mechanism, so I guess if one is stuck, at least the right one is. :). Anyhow, the weld is now broken about 3/4 of the way around, so i need to reweld it. Of course I’ve never welded...so I’m working my way to get there. I’ve decided that I’m just going to use a grease needle to inject fresh grease into the bearing and call it good. It’s just a go-kart after all. I’ll post up some pics of my progress soon.

My son's gocart was the main reason I bought a welder, seems like something is always broken. I've welded the front spindle, shock mount, welded the frame in two places, and added reinforcement, and made a new engine mount.

It's a great project with a kid though, he has really enjoyed it.

It looks like in one picture that the bearing end of the hub is dry. Put your penetrating oil into both ends of the hub and if it has set screws remove them and lube that hole too.
