How do I release this "clip"?

The cord on my battery charger is almost had it. I would like to run a new cord with this fitting but can't get it to release so before I permanently damaged it I thought I better ask.

That's a strain releif, it's purpose is to prevent the cord from being pulled out. It's best to pop it out from the inside but if that's not an option you can try scqueezing the smaller section to get it out easier.

Best bet is to release it from inside the box. Open it up and it will make more sense. . .

The second picture is from inside the charger. It looks like the top 1/4 should slide back allowing it to be turned a little and pulled out. I have prodded and pulled at the removable part but can't get it released. Just need the secret to what holds it in place.

Look closely & you will see where to put a pair of Channellocks & squeeze & pull from the outside, bit harder to put a new cord in but it's still doable.

Yes I looked up the part number on the net and finally found a picture of it open. I just cut the wires and pulled them out to make it easier to remove. Cord was long enough so I just ran it back in and redid the ends. Good as new. Thanks.

They make special "strain relief pliers" for installing and removing those.

I often use needle nose vice grips on these things. They can be a royal PITA if you have limited access from the rear.

Exactly. From the outside, squeeze the small tab into the wire and wiggle, it will come out.

Not sure why people are suggesting squeezing it from the inside.

It's like a 3/4 circle with a wedge for the remaining 1/4. You push the wedge out of the relief and the 3/4 part will collapse and come out of the hole.

Reasons for inside squeezing:

1. Sometimes easier to get them out. (sometimes!) They (the clamp) is pulled from the outside to remove, so the inside part must be compressed the most. Some wire doesn't let you do this from the outside.

2. No visible damage to the wire clamp (looks better when you re-install it.)
