How do I work around this garbage disposal switch?

We are thinking about doing a kitchen remodel this winter. New cabinets, floor countertops...everything. Right now the sink and dish washer are against a half wall. The half wall is about 7" higher than the counter top. There's an outlet on that wall above the counter as well as a switch which controls the outlet for the garbage disposal. The outlet it down below the sink.

We want to cut that half wall down so it's flush with the tops of the cabinets and put a bigger counter top up there and have some stools on the other side. Like an eating area.

In order to do that I need to move that outlet. I already figured out what to do with that. The question is what do I do with that switch. The whole outlet under the sink is controlled by the switch. The dishwasher has it's own outlet behind it.

It would be nice to be able to put it one of those air switches for the disposal and have the button on the counter top. But to do that I would have to remove the wiring from the switch so the outlet is hot all the time right? I guess another option is to move the switch under the cabinets with a surface mount box but that would kind of be a pain every time you want to run the disposal.

I haven't opened the switch or outlet to see what it looks like.

I have installed the one below for a client... you would eliminate your existing switch... change out the outlet guts to make it live all the time.

I second these... a friend has hers set up like this, VERY sanitary install, and no wall access needed. If we ever do a disposal it's the way I'm going hands down...

We went away from the air switch when we did marble a few months back to avoid that pimple in the counter top. Instead, we just did a simple switch in the cabinet below the sink.

If you have never worked with electricity... use an electrician to remove the switch and fix the plug so it has power all the time.

The button I posted requires power all the time. The box included with the button plugs into an outlet. The garbage disposal plugs into the included box.

Most I’ve done is replace outlets and switches. I figured it would be a job for an electrician.

Remove the switch from its box, and tell us which color wires are connected to it. If the switch has one black and one white wire connected to it, switch removal would be a simple task.

It has two black wires attached to the switch and a ground. The white wires are pigtailed together.

Mount the switch box inside the sink cabinet or anywhere it remains accessible, remove the switch and connect the two black wires together. Leave the two white wires tied togerher, and the two grounds together. Now the receptacle is always hot, and you can plug in an air switch. Put a blank cover on the switch box

New construction guy here...

Our kitchens have a large island with no back splash. We mount our disposal switch inside the cabinet, on the hinge side of the door about 6" down from the top of the door. Yes you have to open the door to use the disposal.

One customer had us install an Insinkerator brand air switch instead which worked nicely. Obviously, there is now a permanent hole in the counter top.
