How do you attach tools to power cords?

So my OLD angle grinder finally died. I got a half price deal on a new DeWalt and it works fine.

I was happy to see the box said "tool-less" for changing stones/blades. I wa sick of using that spanner wrench!

But it's NOT tool-less! It takes a 6mm hex key! Grrrr!

I've already lost 2 of them. I'm gonna try not to lose the third one by attaching it to the power cord.

I could just use duct tape, but how unprofessional!

I can make anything out of leather if I have a design. I could weld a ring onto the key and use a zip tie maybe?

I'd love to see your creative solutions!

There are plastic keepers for holding chuck keys on electric drill power cords. I think one of those ought to work for you

I use 12 ga elecgtrical wire and wire it to the plug end. It's heavy enough that the tool doesn't tend to "break" off when I drag it out of some place tight.

This will probably be the easiest and cheapest. Just take off the one size you need and attach it to your lanyard of choice. You could also put a dab of glue under the spring if you dont want it to ever come off.

That's a very good idea! I'm sure I have tons of those around here.

I never use a tool on any of my griders and the are are the old style. Just lock it and loosen with your hands..been doing it for over 20 years..

It is tool free, they just include the hex key in case you get it too tight by hand and can't remove.

Technically all angle grinders are tool free if you know what you are doing.

Put your attachment on the correct direction (depending on thickness of the attachment), spin the clamping flange down until it contacts the attachment firmly (flap disc, grinding wheel, cut off disc, etc). Make sure the spindle lock is being pressed (and that it has caught), and grab the attachment and turn it to snug everything up. It grabs the clamping flange and spins it tight. No tools needed and it works every time.

All those "tool free" flanges are, is a slightly larger flange so that you can use your fingers to tighten it down better. They aren't really anything special and honestly a marketing gimmick. All angle grinder flanges can be tool free. The only thing to be careful of is with cut off discs you don't want to axially load them when turning it by hand. Really nothing to it.

Yeah it felt strange at first but its true. Grinding discs, cutting discs and flapwheels can all be put on by hand without a special wrench or hex. Some attachments dont lend themselves to be hand tightened but most work fine.

I like that! You could also find a short length of rubber hose that the hex key fits into with effort and either use heat shrink or self-adhering rubber electric tape to fasten it to the cord and it will stay put there.
