How do you clean comfort handle tools, I have some instinct screwdrivers and love them despite all the haters on here. But I hate using them because I hate cleaning them after. Any quick cleaning tips?

Interested for some ideas as well. You aren't alone in loving the soft instinct grip though.

You can use the WHITE creamy Permatex hand cleaner. If you can't find that, the GoJo brand is the same stuff.

do you guys really scrub your tools with soap :wtf:.. I spray pb blaster or wd-40 on a blue towel and wipe my tools off. Makes the soft handles look brand new. The tools are for using anyway, they don't have stay new looking all the time. they are going to get worn anyway.

It's not just about them getting worn out. It's nice to be able to pick up a screwdriver without coming away with greasy hands.

Quik N' Brite and a toothbrush. Guaranteed not to harm the plastic, your hands, or the sewer...and no bad smell during or after use!

I'm not personally looking to scrub my tools lol. I usually just wipe down and put away, a bit of brake clean for stubbon oil or grease on a ratchet or wrench, but I can't imagine this is all that good for the soft grips. I think I will try to use some simple green on them before wipe down.

I don't think I'd want my soft grips smelling like Simple Green. And I'm not so sure how safe Simple Green is for the rubber after being impregnated with it long term. Simple Green will remove the black phosphate coating off of impact sockets if left soaking in it for very long.

What I can tell you is that the white hand cleaner is safe for the rubber and you can wipe it off without worrying about any long term residual effects from the product.

Do you have any greasy air hoses that you would like cleaned without being hardened by a caustic cleaner? Permatex white hand cleaner makes rubber air hoses look like brand new and they're also softened by the product and help maintain their flexibility.

This is the only thing I use WD-40 for as a go to. I bought a 1 gallon can with a hand sprayer about ten years ago and am still using it. I have a spray can that you pressurize with air for when I need a pressurized can of WD40

idk about the soft grip handles on ratchets. but the old school hard handles i use a rag with a dab of gas on it. cleans them right up and doesn't harm anything it seems.

if you don't use alot they won't smell either so thats a bonus. i assume the newer soft grips that wouldn't work. id say wd 40 and not simple green based on how strong simple green can be if undiluted.

I use a shop rag and some simple green or similar cleaner. DO NOT use brake clean. It will turn the black parts white and remove any of the markings. I dont scrub them but just wipe them off the best I can. It really just removes the "surface" dirt and not the stains but I dont really care because they are just tools I use and they will just get dirty again

I use fast orange hand wipes on all my tools, after I wipe my hands I wipe down my tools. When working on light tone interiors clean tools is a must, last thing you want is to miss the streak of grease left on a carpet or seat from your screw driver.

I use a bodyshop prep solvent, Acry-Solv.

Works great to clean dirt and grease off of tools, and doesn't damage rubber or plastic like harsher cleaners like Carb Cleaner or BrakeKleen will.

How about a dishwasher?

Now before you look at me crazy, think about it. Hot water wash/rinse, detergent meant to cut grease, dries with heat. I wouldn't wash them with dishes, but I'd be curious how well it would work in its own cycle.

If it's a ratchet, I wouldn't do it. The snappy ratchets even have a warning stamped on them about not immersing them. If you go this route, it'd be simpler time just break the ratchet and get it warrantied. Not ethical, but the dishwasher will destroy it anyway. Plus, I'd worry about rust on other tools, if the chrome is chipped at all you know it'll happen. I usually just wipe with a rag, brake cleaner if it's really nasty. Doesn't seem to affect the soft handles, although they never look new. As long as it doesn't leave grease on my hands, I'm happy.

Don't have any of the screw drivers, but I do have to clean the soft handles of SO ratchets. A quick wipe with a rag usually works, but it gets so nasty every now and then that I'll wipe the handles down with rubbing alcohol. I keep a bottle in my box, besides cleaning cuts it works pretty good as a cleaner.
