I noticed a lot of yall here have some nice pieces hanging on the wall. Items range from framed pictures to car fenders. What kind of hardware are yall using for some of this stuff. I got an idea for pictures, but what about the odd-shaped items? Auto parts and such?

I've got a fairing from one of our motorcycles I'd like to mount. I've also got some handlebars from another. I'm thinking I might make a shadow box to include a picture to make a nice display of the time. I've also got a real sweet cow skull I need to put up somewhere but no idea what kind of hardware.

What have you used?

Depends on your wall material. Many of us are running OSB/Wood covering. For all but the heaviest loads, just a drywall screw works for me.

On drywall, you'll need something more. If it's a VERY heavy load, consider using a lag-screw into a stud or adding a wood mounting surface that is tied into the studs.

For lighter loads on drywall, I particularly like these, look at the EasyAnchors Toggle-locks, they're good for 100+ pounds, the drywall will fail before the anchor does.

In dry wall, I use needles with the eye cut off to hang pictures. For heavy items, use the screw-in drywall anchors. For real odd shaped items, I use safety wire twisted out to where I can use a drywall screw. For license plates that are somewhat warped, drywall screws through cup washers on all 4 corners. For car ramps, workmate, ladders, etc - hardware store brackets or custom made brackets.

I hang stuff by weight . Light bulky items can be hung with drywall screws easy enough . Heavier items I use lag bolts into studs . Most pictures get hung with a small drywall screw in the shop . The fairing is it a large full dresser fairing or a smaller cafe style fairing that will make a differance in how it is hung. The cow skull I would use a lag bolt into a stud as they can be somewhat heavy compared to their size.

For small things I use white trim nails. The same that they use to nail fascia on. For a heavier picture or something similar I use drywall screws. If it is something really heavy, I make sure it is in studs or I may take a piece of wood 18" long to make sure it straddles two studs, anchor it to the wall with drywall screws the use whatever you need and fasten it to the wood strip.

I think the first thing you should hang is an enlarged version of your avatar. That is perfect!!!

Hanging stiuff on the walls is one reason I used OSB. Most of my stuff is hung with drywall screws of various lengths. I drill through picture frames (left/right side, not top/bottom) and screw them onto the wall. This keeps them from "falling" off the wall or getting crooked.

Drywall screws hold almost anything to the wall if you put OSB on your walls first. My previous garage had drywall, and it sucked in more ways than I can list here. My current garage has OSB walls, and it solves all my problems.

Thanks for the options yall  The garage is drywall so any heavier items would definitely need some help.

When I was a kid my mom discovered that sewing machine needles made good "nails" to hand things with. They don't leave a huge hole, but the shank is large enough to support a decent amount of weight. I use them in the house to hang pictures or other things that don't require hanger installation into a stud.

On the other hand, my mother-in-law will use a 16d framing nail to hang a piece of framed needlepoint.
