My cars have jack mounts points. So that's where I put my jack to raise the car. However, when I raise the car to use may jack stands obviously I can't use the same mount point. So usually I use an area around the jack point (when I'm lazy) or use the crossmember. Just curious how everyone does it.

Every car is different for my Wife's SUV i use the sub frame to lift. her old car Honda accord, actually had points with a arrow pointing to them in the front and rear, for my mustang, i use the sub frame in the front and the diff in the rear(some don't like that through). :3gears:

Typically frame or sub-frame. For japanese cars, I never jack at the jacking point for use of emergency screw jack bc I've bent it in the past.

Dependent on vehicle. You can look up the specific jacking and resting points for the vehicle in question. After a while you kind of get "an eye" for good, safe spots.

If you jack on the pinch weld, use hockey puck or similar adapter to prevent harming the pinch weld.

Or go with the old standby of jack on the oil pan, put stands on the floor panels. :spit:

I also vary placement based on what I am doing. For example, there are times when I want a rear axle (perhaps a solid one on a truck) to hang other times to be held in place as if the weight of the vehicle is still on it.

O, that's when you are using the jack to raise the car. How about when you want to use the jack stand. Where do you put the jack, so it is not in the way when you place the jack stand in the correct spot.

For a sedan, I jack the front cross member at the radiator and place the jacks at the frame under the body.

Just as a point of reference on using that front cross member under the radiator. At least on a 68 big block mustang that AINT where you want to do it. I have restored enough crushed crossed members on restoration jobs to say that member was not put there to lift the car by..

same goes with a whole list of other cars.. Just saying....careful what body part you choose...
