I have had my garage finished for 3 weeks now. 50x30. I am forever sweeping up in the damn thing since I drive my garden tractor in, cars in etc.

Is there a BETTER option that just brooming the dang thing? Some sort of vacuum that is easier/faster?

If it is just concrete dust make sure and apply a sealer to the concrete. I use a shop vac with good filters as it traps dirt and dust rather than stirring it up. Keep door shut unless moving a vehicle in or out - also keeps out prying eyes.

Leaf Blower between sweeping it. Good blower will get most of the dust/dirt etc out. Mop it maybe once a month. I hit the walls, corners and floor with the blower, helps keep the cobwebs and stuff out.

But mine is just a 2 car garage.....not 50x30........

I just sweep mine out every couple months or if I work on something that made a mess. Little bit of dirt on the floor isn't going to hurt anything :)

if it is concrete dust, it will never stop but it will slow down as it ages. You can seal it or paint it or lay some tiles like Racedeck down.

As you work out there it will slow down a lot and you will sweep less often.

Push broom and sweeping compound

Leaf blower if you aren't afraid of a little dust in the air - wouldn't recommend if there is gravel and any vehicles that you don't want to assault in the garage at the same time.

Hose it down and then squeegee out door(s)

Mop

30x50 would take quite a while with a vac

Sounds like my friend's shop. I cleaned the floor best I could one day while waiting for him to get some parts in town and I started out by shoveling out the worst of it. I even found that there was a concrete apron in front of the place, was under like 2" of dirt/oil dry/grease, etc. :wtf:

Thanks for the info so far, guys.

What do you use to seal your floor? My slab and garage is only a few month old in case new cement matters.

I have a 40x64 and tried keeping up by brooming. Constant dust/dirt issues, even tried using the shop-vac. It would wear you out trying to keep it clean. Ended up buying a cheap uprite vacuum. It works great, and with the spinning bristles, cleans up stuck dried mud ect. It rolls easily on the concrete and has a light for the dark areas. When this one fails I'm buying a bigger/better vacuum. Only problem is that the neighbors tease me for vacuuming the garage. Below is a picture of the vacuum that I'am using now.

Before my Dad bought a power rake, we could clean the yard of the crush rock in the spring with a shop vac. (would get in teh yard from plowing the driveway)

I got caught vacuuming my lawn once, had some overflowed pee-gravel that I needed to clean up. My neighbor gave me **** forever!!

Got a friend with a machine shop at home. They are messy, metal chips everywhere, but his shop stays spotless. He uses one of those Rumba robot vacuum cleaners, and they work great to sweep the floor at night.

I'm going to be getting one myself.

Leafblower on a regular basis and an airhose with a 3' extension for corners, cobwebs, and above the cabinets.

i have a small 2 gallon shop vac i use to vacuum the benches off with. I have a 8" grinder, belt/disc sander, slow speed drill press, and metal cutting bandsaw within a 16ft stretch of bench-lots of metal twirls, chips, shavings, dust.

I just push broom my floor; they are smooth concrete so its not bad. my 50hp tractor with ag tires likes to drag in softball sized clumps of mud, and leave them everywhere-and i mean everywhere

I have a hard time keeping my floor clean. It's a 70 year old spalled floor. I can sweep it 5 times and still get dust off of it. Hopefully in the spring I can pour a new floor on top of the old one.

I have a hard time to imagine that the Roomba would keep a shop floor clean. I have one in the house and it does ok to get the most of the dog hair, dirt, etc but I still have to sweep and vacuum every week or two to get what it keeps missing.

Combination of broom, shop vac., Zep purple degreaser and mop, and Tennant motorized sweeper.

At some point, when I can afford it, I'd like one of those German pressure washers that have been mentioned on here.

That is pretty much how I do it.....I do a lot of woodworking...I vac that up as I go and then about once or twice a week I start up the leaf blower starting from the back....

Gather some supplies from this list:

1. Broomstick
2. Roll of duct tape
3. Mop bucket
4. Long haired cat

Use your imagination..............

Hint: go easy with the squeezer on the mop bucket or you'll be looking for another cat.

He is probably using a Dirt Dog, not a Roomba.

When you get a chance, can you ask him how long he's had it and how reliable it is? I've been interested in getting one for quite a while, but have avoided doing so because the Roomba has a LOT of quality issues.

They sure have come down in price tho - I see them for $189 CDN now...used to be $450. What kind of quality issues have you heard? I'd like a Roomba for the house and a DirtDog for the shop!
