How do you lift a heater?

Just picked up a Mr Heater 80k unit to replace the pellet stove.

I'm looking for creative ways to lift it to my 9' ceiling myself.

The only lift I have is a motorcycle lift table which gets me about 3'.

Any ideas?

If you're having to do it by yourself, here's what you need to do. . .

Buy lots of beer, throw a neighbourhood barbeque, invite everyone over. Get to know the guys and make friends.

Go to a bar, get to know some guys, make friends.

Go to church, get to know some guys, make friends.

Be nice at work, get to know the guys, make friends.

There, now you have some friends. Ask them to help. . .

Seriously though, follow that link above. Probably has every idea you can come up with for lifting a heavy *** piece of steel up to the ceiling.

I used my Bobcat with pallet forks and put my heater on the roof of a step van that I used to own. Then I backed the step van into the desired location. By rocking the heater (with its pallet)and alternately putting blocks of wood under it, I got it up to the installed height.
You could rent something like a drywall lift and put the heater on it.

Mount unistrut to ceiling.
Get 4- 3/8 inch strut nuts,12- 3/8 fender washers,12- 3/8 nuts,and 4- 8 foot pieces of threaded rod.
Measure and install threaded rod to unistrut.
Put threaded rod in heater mounting brackets .
Tighten threaded rods to desired height.
Cut rods .
Drink beer.

That's a lot of nut twisting. I suggest beer drinkning starting as soon as the nut twisting segment begins vs. at the end.

I vote for the drywall lift and sheet of plywood. My local ACE has tool rental available, I think it was $20 for 4 hours, well worth it if you are on your own.

I had access to two 8' A frame ladders and helpers for a 45k heater. Amazing how much help you get from neighbors when the cooler is full.

It's been a while since I did mine. I believe I used a pulley hung from a 2x4 laid across the rafters beams. I think mine is a 75K unit.

That video link is very close to how mine went up and cut the hole in the roof. I hoisted it up from the vent hole in the ceiling. My measurements were exact as you can see I did not have to cut any drywall on the ceiling. Unit is hanging by the threaded rods.

This is exactly how I did mine. Took only a couple of minutes to get the heater mounted. Then we stood back and admired it for about 5 beers.......
