How do you mark photos?

I've noticed on many threads with photos that the photos are marked up with red lines, arrows, text etc. to better illustrate what the photo is about. How is this done? I usually go to my iPad picture album to select photos I want to upload into a thread but have no idea how to write on them or mark them up.

Can anyone tell me how to do this?

From your computer, right click on the picture file and open with paint. Then you can do whatever you want to it in paint, save it, post it.

There are better programs out there, but that is what comes free with Microsoft Computers.

I just use "snipping tool". it lets you copy anything on the screen by dragging a box around it, then you can mark it up. quick and easy but it doesn't have standard circles or arrows (wish it did) but you can draw with the pen or highlight...sometimes I past it in word and use the graphics within that program...

If you are using an iPad or iPhone go to 'Photos'

select the photo you want to edit and at the bottom select the icon between the 'heart' and the garbage can,

select the circle with three dots in it and you will get a popup with 'markup'...

Yes! The snipping tool is also great for taking screen shots of certian text and or information, pictures included.

Jack D,

Thanks for the suggestion but when I select a photo on my iPad and then select the icon between the heart and the garbage can ( a square with an up arrow in it ) which are at the top of the photo, there is no circle with 3 dots. I get two lines under the photo. The top line includes icons for: Mail, Add to Notes, Twitter, Flickr, Save PDF to iBooks, and an icon with 3 dots labeled More. When I select More, it gives me all of the same icons but with the addition of Facebook.

The bottom line under the photo has icons for: Copy, Duplicate, Slideshow, Hide, Assign to Contact, Use as Wallpaper, Print, plus a 3 dot icon that says More. When the More icon is selected, it gives me all the same selections starting with Copy, Duplicate, etc. but with an added selection for Save to Dropbox.

I can't find any icon of a circle with 3 dots to get a pop up for Markup. What am I doing wrong? Would appreciate any help you or anyone else can give to resolve this dilemma.

Thanks......Glen

Glen, If you are not running the latest version of iOS you cannot do markup. I have an older iPad that cannot upgrade to iOS 10 and markup is not there, so that may be your issue.

Select the settings icon on the home screen, then General, then Software Update.

If it says you are at latest level then you will not be able to do markup. You need to be at 10.1.1 to be at the latest level.

Thanks to all for the responses. I have an older iPad which will not update to the version that supports Markup. Doing some research on the web, I found that if I upload a photo into an email, I can use the iPad email program to markup the photo. It seems a little cumbersome to do it but will work with a little practice.
