I oil my air tool before each use for the day( put 4-5 drops into bottom of tool through air fitting) and try to when I store them. But I have some die grinders that have a small oil/ grease port by the head of the tool. It says to grease.
What do you use to grease these tools?

I use the lithium grease on my air tools so far no problems. I try to get the straw from a wd40 spray can and insert it into the spray lithium grease can. To inject it into the hole. Sometimes you can get the straw lithium with the straw with it.

I had a Tekton inline oiler but I think it's restricting air so I removed it and just put 4-5 drops in the air inlet at the start, every 4 hours of use and end of use. If there's a grease fitting I'll inject some IR air tool grease.

Just a couple of drops of oil in the quick connect.
Same here. I buy C.H. air tool oil because it has a decent nozzle. I guess they're one quart.
Sit's right by the regulator-filter since many air tools "require" me to back down the throttle to use them anyway.

I put Marvel Mystery Oil in the air fitting and grease the head if there is a grease fitting with a plastic push type grease gun that you would use on your chain saw bar.

I oil mine with air tool oil before using them and if doing lots of work during the work. I have found that greasing the zerk in the back of my IR impact guns just blows grease all over the customers wheels.

Does anyone know of a substitute grease for IR impacts? Packed mine with regular Moly grease, and its awfully sluggish in cold weather.

I just use an EP-0 grease in one of those mini grease guns like pictured above. I have it on hand for the gear boxes on my string trimmers and it's called for on chain saw bar nose sprockets as well as other OPE uses.

Most grease that you can easily get is NLGI-2. As several people mentioned use a grease that is rated NLGI 0 or 1.

I don't believe everything I read on Wiki but this is a good read:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/NLGI_consistency_number

I have been using this lately:

Good Luck.

+2 on this. Before every use. Only about 3-4 drops. I had a slow leak coming from my trim nailer that still worked but just a small hiss, more annoying than anything. Ended up taking the entire thing apart and hitting all the o-rings with Dow Corning 33 (use to use this on my Shocker Turbo, and had a small tub left over), put it back together and no more hiss!

I oil my air tools before each use but do I need to grease them as well? My small I right angle die grinder has a small grease fitting on the front which I grease but I do not see any grease points on my Snap on MG735 or MG325. Do these guns require any additional maintenance over the standard oiling?

the mg's are sealed for life on the grease part...as for the die grinder, a couple squirts every month or so should do fine

Hey Chris -

I have an IR 231 that I've greased and oiled religiously but it has lost power. Wondering what might be the cause. It's 30 years old, but hasn't seen much action since I quit wrenching professionally, about 30 years ago. I have a water trap and an oiler on my compressor.

I have the same IR 231 and it has to be at least 30 years old. Every once in a while it will be a tad sluggish. I dump some Marvel Mystery Oil in the air fitting , hit the trigger and let it blow out the exhaust. This has always brought mine back to life.

Like others have said, I put a few drops of air tool oil in before using the tool. I had one new die grinder go bad on 1st use, but all my junk used stuff seems happy.

Plombob, you may have a little too much grease in the housing.

Something you may want to check any way.
