How Do You Open Milwaukee Battery Packages

I firmly believe it would be easier to crack open a safe than getting a Milwaukee battery out of its factory packaging. My new weapon of choice is aviation shears along with shop knives. On one particularly obstinate one I had to use my table saw. That was touch and go.

I can only wish for an AvE chain saw.

My Leatherman sidekick has a little bladed hook tool meant for opening those types of packages...wicked handy.

The hook blade for utility knives works great. It’s mainly for carpet but guts plastic shell cases with ease.

I think I remember reading or hearing that plastic packaging cause something like 2,000 trip to the ER annually for lacerations.

Is there anything worse than buying a pair of scissors, only to find that you have no way to get into the friggin' package?

BTW- It's done on purpose. We used to do packaging at one place I worked, and it's designed to be hard to get in to to discourage thieves.

I have a set of heavy duty offset scissors (As seen on tv) similar to these. They are awesome for opening packages. kinda gimmicky but do work great. Well worth the $10-15 I probably paid for them.

Got 8 stitches in my finger from a steak knife trying to open a package a few years ago.

Sort of discontinued...

Apparently there are a few different versions of the same cutter. Another key term is ZipSnip

At least those 3 use the same replacement blades and are theoretically the same cutting head. Hope this helps someone.

"Very carefully" was also my answer

Generally a box cutter on my workbench plastic cutting board - I cut a V from one spot at the interior to the edge (two straight pulling cuts) to get things a little loose, extend from the bottom of the V as much as I can and pull another cut to the edge, etc.

It's one of those things where speed is not your friend...

Good (Preferably serrated) scissors and cut just inside the weld. M12's are super easy, just two cuts from the bottom, inside the weld dots. M18's are more difficult, but same idea. M18 kits, use a Olfa utility knife and start in the areas with an air gap.

For packages with weld seams, can openers generally work well but I just use a utility knife and cut close to the item.

I have to confess that in my struggles to open packaging, I've also cut the instructions into ribbons.

I admit I've not had much trouble with packages but if I ran into a real problem I'd head for my multitool. A worn out saw blade sharpened to a knife edge will cut most anything.

Haha. That is an interesting conundrum. People LS swap Fords so I don’t know...

I use a pair of EMT shears to cut clamshell/blister packs. Works pretty well, fairly safe since they're not "sharp" per se. They're cheap, too, so I've got a handful of pairs around the house, shop, at my desk, in my go bag, in the truck. Lots of uses for them.


These aren't the ones I have but they're basically all the same.

I've been wishing for one of those for YEARS. The hook is soo useful except when it's not...I end up with two utility knives, one with each blade.
