How do you organize your socket extensions?

Mine recently got kicked out of the socket drawer and are now piled up in an already over crowded side box drawer I'm ordering another side box next weekend and am looking for ideas. I was thinking about just dividing a drawer into 3 1/4-3/8-1/2 and tossing them in like that but am open to suggestions

I keep mine with the ratchets, torque wrenches and breaker bars. From left to right with 1/2, 3/8 and 1/4" drive.

I recently got some of the U.S. General drawer organizers at the HF. The 3pc set #99731 Two of the sections can fit most of my extensions bars and 1/4 shank adapters. Worked for me.

I only used two of the three pieces in a in wide drawer which left me room for other stuff

The longer extensions rest on the flats of the drive. The stubbies move but very little with the drawer liner.

i read through the other thread referenced in the first few posts.

so, am i really the only person here who takes his extensions and puts them on a socket rail?

i do this for u-joints and size adapters too . . . . .

My size adapters are on a rail as are my u-joints

A rail for my extensions just seems like it would take up too much space

Also I read through that thread 90% of the members here just pile them up in a drawer I guess I'm rougher on my stuff then a lot of people because they would be mixed up the first time I open/closed the drawers

I used HF socket rails, it works well for me, however if I were to be using them everyday in a shop like environment I would have to find another storage method. When I need to grab one quickly, it never seems to release easily from the rail clip.

I put the adapters on socket rails and smaller extensions have been staying their trays. When I run out of room I'll probably have to do something else. I like the socket trays because I can easily spot if something is missing.

I got some silverware trays by Rubbermaid at walmart and keep them with the ratchets

I made the red tray out of wood for most my 1/4" stuff.





I roughly copied a Snap On plastic tray that was all broken up. I used a piece of basswood and a router bit with my Shopsmith in the drill press mode,

in the garage boxes, loose in the drawer with my ratchets...
in my service truck 3/8" & short(er) 1/2" in a drawer with 2/8" dr ratchets.

3/4" dr in a different toolbox drawer with sockets, ratchet & breaker bar head.

1/4" dr in a separate blow molded box.
