That label will be a styrofoam sticker and then underneath that will be an Allen screw that takes a 3/16 Allen key or socket.

Yes, I removed the sticker and used a 3/16 allen key socket to take the handle out. However, when I wanted to put it on the other side, I realized I couldn't screw those allen screws in. It seems like the thread is either off or damaged. I tried to use a thread checker but couldn't find the right size, so I believe it is likely the latter (damaged thread). What confuses me is both threads are not working. What is my next best option? Should I bust open my rethreading kit and repair the threads?

There may be some paint gumming up the threads on the un-used side. I would run a tap through each hole (after checking the bolt thread pitch) and see if that lets you thread the bolts in.

There's powder coat paint in the threads of the threaded inserts.

Apply some air tool oil to the screws and run them in by themselves and then back them out.

Thread pitch is 1/4-20.
