How do you remove plastic hangers/security tabs from ratchets?

I wasn't sure what it was called, but do any of you know a better way of removing that plastic "tab" that attaches to the head of ratchets after you buy them? The part that spins around with the item label, etc.

Like socket sets, I'd just wiggle and break them off. Wasn't sure if there was a more "elegant" way of doing so.

The harbor freight ones are terrible to get off, I usually end up using a small screwdriver to gently pry it off if I can't get it by hand .

I'd say get yourself a Stihl demo saw....

I rarely buy tools with those style tabs, but when I do, I just cut them with a pair of side cutters.

I vote screwdriver or side cutter. Of course you could just buy Snap-on and not have to deal with it as they do not come with those theft deterrent devices. :D

Our Sidchrome tabs are a pain and I have found lately there is no eloquent way to remove them other than cut them off with side cutters..

Regards

That's it. I use side cutters. Sometimes they come off easy sometimes they are an absolute pain in the ****. Too bad they feel like the world is so full of thieves that they must do this.

Ugh I just had one break off in a 4.5mm socket. It's not so bad with a larger socket usually I can get them right out. With this 4.5mm 1/4 drive though I tried needle nose pliers a small pick and hook. It just keeps mashing the plastic more. I think I'm just going to take it outside today and put a torch on it to melt the plastic.
