How do you store bungee cords?

How do you guys store bungee cords? Just throw them in a drawer? Have them hanging somewhere?

I was organizing stuff today, and I've got a bunch, and they just sorta take up a shelf. It definitely wouldn't be Jack Olsen approved.

So guys, how's it done?

i've got mine hanging on an air line ...

I take one bungee and tie it around the rest. Then you can hang them with the one you used to tie it with. This works really well when you have LOTS of them. I keep around 50 of them on my truck so having them organized really helps.

When I used to tarp lumber, I kept mine in a Rubbermaid container with a top. The container was probably 24"l X 14"w X 6" or 8 " deep . It was almost perfect.

Get a piece of 1 1/2 or 2 in plastic pipe, cut it to just longer than your longest bungee. Hook end over the open ends, for shorter ones drill holes in the pipe just a little longer than the bungee. holds 10-20, I throw it in the back of the pickup .. no more tangles. You can always tell the long, medium and short ones...

I have mine hanging from a coat hanger.

In the truck I keep the bungee cords, straps, rope, etc in an old nylon bag.

Excellent idea, Question. Are you using the inside of the pipe also? Maybe 4" if it fits in the truck toolbox.

I have mine hanging on the wall on a dowel. Shortest to longest.

I dropped a couple of lengths of threaded rod through a cabinet shelf to strengthen it. On the bottom of the rod, I mounted a 4" metal disc and drilled some holes around the perimeter to slide the hooks through:

You mean to tell me it's not ok to just keep them in a wad in the truck box or the corner of the garage.....? I do hang them on a hook also occupied by the weed eater and tie downs for the dirt bike.

I once worked with a now retired Air National Guard Major from Selfridge ANGB, who was the Load Master for moving operations to and from locations.

He recounted an incident where one of his people lost an eye when a bungee cord let go. They are handy, but when extended pack a tremendous amount of force.

I also had one let go that was holding a hood down -- I was on route to my friends shop to repair some front end damage. I was doing 45 at the time the hood flew up and hit the top of the roof. Man I nearly p**ped.

It turned out OK, the roof was not damaged, nor the windshield; the hood had to be replaced any way.

I don't use the fabric covered bungee cords with the spring hook and knot on the ends any more - the knot slipped out.

Man if I stopped using everything that hurt me in my shop, I don't think I would have any tools left!

I use the pvc drain pipe, the one with all holes, works for different length bungees.
The only thing I will add to that is it needs to be wrapped in a towel or blanket, the bungees make a lot of noise going down the road.

I dump 'em in gallon-size zip lock bags, labeled and sorted by size.

Had a trucker client who is now legally blind due to a bungee cord that let go.

As far as storage. I leave them tied in knots with the tow ropes and straps. Straightening them is on the list of things to do. It's a long list.

I use a 4'' plastic pipe, just longer than my longest strap. Then I cut some rectangular slots on the side of the pipe down from the one end, these being several inches longer than each size of strap. Problem, all together

I use a ratchet strap hanger that I took out of my enclosed trailer and arrange them in length. Have used the PVC with the holes also.

All my bungee cords are in my truck, I just hang them from a hole in my headache rack. Easy to get to, out of the bed so I can use it. I really don't think I have any that aren't in my truck that are not doing something, so I've never actually thought about storing them, lol.
