How do you store caulking gun tubes?

I have some stacked in a milk crate which works ok but it still takes up space that I could use better. I have one of those older Craftsman workbench and above it mounted high on the wall are some metal wall cabinets that are 12" deep. These cabinets are hung at the same height as other cabinets above my Lista workbench, so the space between the top of the bench and the cabinets above is over24". I was thinking about dropping $10 and buying a 6' section of Closet Maid wire shelving and mounting it so the lip normally in front and pointing down would be up and against the wall. I would space it down enough from the bottom of the upper cabinets to allow a tube to slide in there easily. I would lose just a couple inches of free space above the work surface but gain nearly 6' running feet of space for these pesky tubes.

Does this sound like a workable plan? Has anybody tried anything like this?

Caulk has a shelf life. Don't store any of it. Return what you don't use in the unopened tubes. Toss the rest.

Check the manufacturing date and then look at the technical specification for shelf life. Silicone caulk typically has an 18 -24 month shelf life from date of manufacture in an unopened tube. That is not the date you purchased the caulk.

Using it past the shelf life may work but then it may not and you don't know until years later when you have 1000's of dollars of wood rot to repair.
