For those of you that do not have a full time heated garage, how do you store items that will freeze? Things like spray paint, car washing soap, etc. I was reading a farm journal a while back and a guy wrote in saying he used an old refrigerator. He put a small (40 watt, I think) bulb in it and just left it on all the time with his items on the shelves. A fridge is insulated so good it will never freeze.

If the stuff is expensive, I take it in the house. If not, I have used the lightbulb idea. It has worked for me.

I use the old fridge trick. I just got tired of carrying stuff down into the basement in the fal and out again in the spring.
You jumper the door switch so the light dosn't go off when you close the door. I use a 100 watt bulb, but mine is kind of big and I am in northern Illinois, so I am just being safe.

I have part time heat. A wall mounted propane heater. I turn it on as needed. This is my first garage I have owned with a house and this will be my first winter with it. We shall see how it goes.....

Some stuff isn't worth the cost of running a bulb all winter long, so I just dispose of it. If it has value, then I store it in the cellar. My garage never gets that cold that anything has ever frozen, unless someone leaves the door open for an extended time. Usually if you cover it with a blanket and keep it off the floor by using some cardboard under it, the cold won't get to it. We keep soda in the garage this way, and it has never frozen....
