How does an Air/Hydraulic Jack work?

OK, well, my question in the other thread seems to have been lost in the shuffle, so I'm asking it in its very own!

OK, so while we're on this subject... using hyjacks.com as an example:

71245A List Price 551.79 Their price 386.26 shipping wt 120lbs.
71230A List Price 278.97 Their price 195.28 shipping wt 97lbs.

info pretty clearly says that the 71245 is a 71230 with the air capability.

So, my question is, what is really different about it? There's 23 lbs of something added, and it costs $190.98 to add it. I feel like it should take maybe $20 worth of hose and fittings plus maybe a few bucks for some different seals or something. How does the air part work and why does it cost so much?

The air/hyd unit you are looking at uses shop air to raise -in otherwords you dont pump the handle up and down to raise a vehicle, the air pressure does that for you by pressing a button. The 71230 is simple you're everyday floor jack like you find everywhere- you pump the handle to raise the vehicle.

Yeah, I know what it is. My question is what is different in it makes it cost and weigh so much more.

There will be an air piston, hoses and valves to operate the air/hyd one. That accounts for the weight and the price is also for the above.

Normally you "pump" the handle to operate. The air/hyd uses the air piston to do that. All you do is pull the trigger.

So there's a separate air piston. For some reason, I was thinking that a single cylinder was able to be operated by either air or fluid. Makes sense. Thanks.

I have researched this subject for a long time. Used has got me nowhere. I'm now soon ready to buy new!
