How does everyone store rolls of tape?

I have been thinking of making a tape holder by cutting piece of 3 inch PVC pipe in half lengthwise making a horizontal channel or gutter that would hold the rolls side by side, that way you could easily get at any roll you needed without having to take all the others off first.
It could be easily mounted on a wall or under the edge of a set of cabinets.
If only I had any open wall space or cabinets that's what I'd do.

Oh how I feel your pain for more wall or floor space.:(
I have 4 ladder hooks that I use to store my tape. While they are way overkill for holding tape mine are 6" long and big rolls of duct tape and such fit over smaller rolls of electictical tape and such-allowing 2 rolls stored per inch of projection from the wall.

Bump for a few fresh ideas! I gotta get something that works for me as my tape rolls are taking over. Duct, masking, electrical, teflon, gorilla, drywall, vinyl, double sided, carpet, painting tape...

Nothing fancy here ,just hung them on a peg board. Always there when I need them though.

I have a drawer in one of these cabinets that is dedicated to tape and string. BTW - the cabinet is now INSIDE my garage.

Tape storage? I really need my expensive tapes to work when I want to pull them out and use them. Pisses me off when they dry out. I store them sealed in zip lock baggies and then put the assorted bags of tape in a gladiator cabinet on the wall. Always fresh and ready to use..

If I'm using it a lot-then having a dispenser on the work bench is great. my 3 cents

The primary rule for tape storage is to make sure it is just out of reach when you are holding something together that needs taping.

I'm surprised no one else in this old thread stores the same way I do. I go the pegboard route also, except I use a single hook to hold both ends of a thin maybe 3' long chain. The chain runs through the centers of each roll. If I'm low, then I just hook the chain more towards the middle so it doesn't hang as far.

I keep them all in a large plastic tupperware food box. Holds about 7-10 rolls depending on roll sizes, and is almost as air tight as a zipploc bag. Easier to store, easier to get too.

No photos, but I picked up a few toilet paper roll holders and attached them to the wall in my last garage. It was very easy to pull the tape from the roll if I only needed a bit, or take the entire roll off when I needed more.

I used to keep them all in a similar setup to my bucket, with a single loop:

In my new place I've got it spread out just a little bit more, like this:

Although I think I may put a large loop or peg on the end of the chain so that I can do something more like what torqueman2002 had with this:

As mentioned earlier, something similarto a tupperware type container. I went with the "ziploc" food storage containers. Works ok and with various size containers available, it is easy to separate the various types. Masking in one, duct in another, electrical in another...

These are relatively inexpensive and see through so I have started using them for storing many items.

I also keep my good rolls of tape sealed Ziploc bags -- sometimes wrapped in wax paper -- along with the original labels for identification purposes. Not only can tape dry out if left exposed to the environment for a prolonged duration, airborne debris will accumulate on the along the sticky edges.

Mine are all in a plastic grocery bag that hangs from the floor joists (overhead) in the basement. I have large rolls of scotch tape that have been there for 10-15 years. And I'm just about out, too. :)

This came up not too long ago, but darned if I can find the thread. I'm pretty lousy at forum searches.

Anyway, I have a wooden cabinet that is largely devoted to service manuals/books. I used this metal bracket from a hardware store to support a shelf, and provide hooks for a dowel rod, on which I keep my tape.

I'm trying to keep things hidden out of sight so my tape rolls get put in a couple of drawers under the worktop.

I made this for over my workbench. Space is a premium for me so I tried to pack as much in a small area as possible.

In my house, I have a small cardboard box with the top flaps cut off. I flipped the box up on its side, so the bottom of the box was facing the rear of the cabinet. Then I stack the rolls of tape up in the box.
Keeps them contained in one area, keeps them from falling over sideways, and they always have a neat, orderly home.

In the shop, for some ridiculous reason, I do not have a box like that, and just throw them on a shelf in a cabinet.
I guess I need to cut up another Flat Rate box!
