How does one remove previous owner's marks?

I recently picked up a set of full polished Blue Point combo wrenches at an estate auction.

The late owner had scratched his initials into them, though not too deep.

Is there a way to remove these marks without grinding the chrome away? Thanks in advance.

If he scratched into the chrome but it's still chrome at the bottom of his scratches then he's not through the chrome layer. Lightly grind it or maybe even just aggressively polish it off and you should be ok. I like to leave the owner's marks on them though, most of my tools are from auctions so I kinda like that they are all getting a second or third life.

I thought about it, then I decided to leave
It alone thinking I would just make it
look worse. I got a written receipt from
the retired machinist I got some of my stuff
from so I'm not too worried about it.
