How does Sears Shop your way surprise points work?

I'm not a big fan of Sears, but had two things come in this week so thought I would try something from them.

I have a $10 off of $30 total purchase. So, the way I read that, I need to put out $30 after discount to get the $10; so a $40 or more item.

I also have about $2.37worth of shop your way points.

And, I have $20 worth of surprise points.

So, figured I could pick out about $40 - $50 worth of items, take off the $10 discount code, and then pay $22.37 with points, and pay less than $10 balance. I've been curious about the 1/4" flex sockets, after reading the snap-on vs craftsman thread on them, so thought I'd order a set to compare to the snap-on, and the $30 discount off of a $80 set would make it an affordable experiment.

So, when I log in and click on my points, it shows $2.37 and $20 in surprise points. I put the sockets and some other stuff in my cart, enter the $10 code, and it takes off $10. I go to checkout, and tell it to use my points, and it uses the $2.37. Doesn't show the surprise points.

So, thought maybe the craftsman sockets weren't allowable stuff. Tried putting in $100 worth of towels and similar stuff that is definitely in the allowable stuff, and the same thing happens.

So, what do you do to use the surprise points?

I've rarely had a problem using them. Is it for tools specifically? A lot of times surprise points are for certain categories. Sometimes they also are not allowed to be used with other coupons, discounts, or points. Go to SYWR and look at your actual surprise points page and see what it says there. You can also contact SYWR with any problems.

they don't work with codes on some things so you can't used a code on top of the surprise points. 10 off 30 means you have to buy $30 worth of what ever the surprise points are good for, then apply them and what ever normal points you have and want to use. you pay the rest of out pocket. So if its just the surprise points you pay $20

You can't stack different surprise points offers in one order you have to break them up and meet the terms of the offer.

Odds are your $20 in surprise points have exclusions. SYWR usually does this with good value points. Log into your shopwyourway.com account and click on the points. I suspect your $20 surprise points excludes coupons, hence why they go away when you add the $10 code.

Generally, these are the rules:

In order to use a $ off total coupon, the value before taxes must be at least the stated total.

In order to use a $in points back, the value you pay out of pocket, excluding any applied points, must be the stated amount.

You can use 1 $off and one points back offer per transaction.

You can only use 1 of each type of offer per transaction.

Rewards points can be used in lieu of cash but will affect the out of pocket spent on a points back offer.

I'm guessing that either, the $20 in surprise points is for a specific category, the items you have selected are excluded or the $20 is actually a points back offer.

There is another round of $20 in points back on a $20 purchase. Is that your $20 offer?

Yea they can be tricky. Glad you got it figured out. Its hard to find something worth buying with them though for tools. Whenever I get them I just get some Gladiator hooks for cheap or free. The surprise points offerings have been pretty weak for me so far this year. Maybe because I got the birthday points for Jan.

They work like this:

I get an email about surprise points

Im surprised about getting the email

I go to their website and am NOT surprised at how useless the points are

I WILL be surprised when I get a surprise points deal thats actually worth the time of opening said email.

Just bought Gladiator endcaps for $0.96 with surprise points.
Actually I collected a garage full of Gladiator products using surprise points. This is one of the best rewards programs if you are patient.

Ever since the 2015 Holiday shopping season concluded, surprise points have been hit or miss now.
