How does this box go together?

So I picked up a Sears Griplatch 40" tool chest setup. I got the following:
40" roll around
40" intermediate chest
40" top chest
6 drawer side cabinet
Side locker
My question comes in when I go to hang the cabinet and locker. Do I hang them on the intermediate chest or put them on the roll around and try to jam the intermediate chest on?

they should mount on the roll cab but there may not be room for both. i am not sure those were designed for one on each end. i have older top, bottom, and side. that bottom may strain with those extra peices and a boat load of tools. i would be awful careful moving it. mine fully loaded is plenty heavy without middle and locker.

I didn't see any warnings in the instruction manuals about adding the side cabinets. I figured they went right on the roller. I will have to reconfigure.

As the OP found out, intermediate boxes are designed to fit on the top of the roller with plenty of room for side boxes on either side. Side boxes from most makers only take up a small fraction of an inch of the top rim. Intermediate boxes are usually about 1/4-1/2 inch narrower than the top of the roll cabinets so I've used side boxes on both sides of Craftsman cabinets, with intermediate and top box.

I will, I will. However, I need to rearrange my whole garage for this box! I actually CAN'T take a pic right now because I physically can't get far enough away from the box to get a picture of the whole there where it is jammed now!

avc8130....when you do post some pictures up, do me a favor. Can you take/post some pictures of the side locker? maybe a shot or two of with the door open? I have yet to see (in person or in a picture) of whats inside the side lockers? Drawers, shelves? I am thinking of getting one for my 40". Thanks!

Side locker has 4 drawers in it that slide out. They are adjustable for height. I didn't think I would like it...I LOVE it. It is the best part of the box!

I bought a 26" and then a 40" from Sears 20 plus years ago. I still have some brochures that show the accessories. On the side cabs there was a caution notice on some that the should only be used on something 40" or wider. Guess they thought the added weight on a 26" could tip it over.

I like the blue set. Problem for me is that with the added height of the single wide drawer intermediate it is too tall for me.

I have one of those 6 drawer side cabinets too, but if I ever attach mine to my roll cab I plan to mount it on the other side of my roller to give the setup a more balanced look.

I agree, I used to want one of those drawers for my setup till I figured out I would need one of those little step stools that I do not like to get to all my 1/2" drive stuff in the top box. That nixed the deal for me, I did not want one that bad!

mkdive, I have the same combo, even the same color. My top chest is a little different layout and I dont have the intermediate though. For those of you that do, does it make it too tall to see into the top really well? I added up the #'s and it would be as tall as I am (5'10"), seems like it would be difficult to see into the top area.

I am also curious on the side locker, does it have drawers and shelves? How many?

Those are pullout drawers, not shelves, and yes, at 5' 10" which I am too, you need a step stool to see the top contents of the box. Which is just :supergay: to me. :spit:

Now that I have an intermediate box, The side locker would look kind of funny on my setup. It would fit great with just the chest and cart. I think if I stuck a locker on the side It would be shorter than everything else i have. I wouldn't give-up having 3 full length drawers. I like those alot! I waited awhile to order the top chest I have just because it has a full length drawer on it.

The side locker is really just 4 pull out drawers. They are fully adjustable so you can move them up and down.

I have it with the intermediate box and it is shorter than the top...but a 3rd full width drawer is worth it!

Somehow I had it in my mind that there would be drawers and a few shelves in there:headscrat

Do you have a step or something to see in the top...or are you just unnaturally tall?:lol_hitti

Still waiting on pics too!:bounce:

How securely does the one drawer intermediate box lock? I want one to put on top on my 40 incher at work but I don't want tools walking off if you can just yank it open.

You should have room, but it will be tight.

I have a 40" Husky roll cab, with a 40" Craftsman intermediate and 40" Husky top; with a Husky side cabinet hanging on either side of the roller.

Hang one side cabinet on the roller; then put on the intermediate, snug it over as far towards the one side cabinet as you can, and then hang the other side cabinet. Throw on the top chest, and you're done.

where did you get your husky side cabinets? i have been looking for some and havent seen any. i have the biggest cabinet that husky makes and still need more room

Thanks for posting the picture. I was trying to figure if the drawers were built like the normall ones (stacked on each other) or open topped... That makes more sence now thanks.
