My wife and I moved last year and the new house doesn't have as good of a shop space as the last one, it seems to be a theme around here. Anyway I kept money from the sale of the last house to build a shop at the new one.

I got a quote for a 30x38 with 12' eaves. 1' overhangs. Scissor trusses. They are framing in 2 9'x8' garage doors, I'll be hanging them. They are putting in 3 windows and a man door.

And they want 21K

Does that sound reasonable?

Thanks
Mike

I’m in Maryland and PA Amish built mine in 2017. It’s a 30x40x12 plus a 9x40 lean to. Scissor trusses, 8x18’ insulated garage door, 1 double man door, 1 single man door, 3 2x4’ windows, 1 foot overhang, 5” gutters, two tone (4’ wainscot) . It was $17,500.

Seems very fair to me. I am putting up a 40x60x16 right now my kit (lumber, metal, doors, trusses, and engineered plans) was 34K. I am putting it up myself but would assume labor would be another 30K plus here in Oregon.

I am in south Jersey and had a 40x60x16 pole barn installed by the amish 2 years ago for $29.5k, that included 2 10x12 insulated doors, 1 10x7 insulted door, 4 windows and a man door all installed. That was pre covid lumber prices. Your quote seems to be reasonable.

In October, I had a 24x30x10, with two 10ft insulated overhead doors and a man door, double bubble insulation, and concrete turnkeyed for $13,350.

This is in Oklahoma...jsut goes to show the price differences across the nation.

That's pretty wild how much cheaper it is out there. My concrete is on top of that price

I'm in MD as well, who did you go with? Would you recommend them?

I used Shirk Pole Buildings- they were great to deal with and beat others prices.
http://www.shirkpolebuildings.com/html/contact_us.html

Their concrete prices were about 50% of local contractors too. 1200sf inside and 1200 sf outside, 6” of 4K psi with rebar - $10,500 (this was in addition to the original $17,500 for the building. I realize concrete prices are a moving target but their work was great and locals wanted 20-25k for same job.

Really need more info. I'm in CNY and had an Amish crew 5 years ago build by 32 x 42 x 14. But, I added in extras. . . cupola, many windows, carriage style garage doors, fresh door, porch, Permacolumns, 5" concrete floor, standard girts with bookshelf girts. "Base" price was, I believe, around $25K. With extras, about $54K.

I got a quote recently for a 24X24 agricultural building to park trailers/tractors. Trusses, open span, no sides, metal roof, gravel floor. $15,000. My site is ready, so no excavation. Built to be suitable to enclose later if I wish.

Sounds fair. Just got a quote here in Montana for a 40x48x14 DIY kit. 1 12 foot roll up and 1 12 foot slider, no windows. 32k for just the materials.

You didn't *ASK*, I know, but IMHO you are going to regret 9' wide doors,,,, I mean that.
ten foot minimum, twelve if you can.
I can't drive my Duramax thru a 9' without having to pull the mirrors in.
