How does this work at harbor freight?

Hey guys, yesterday i went by Harbor Freight yesterday to buy their 3 in 1 jump start with air compressor.

http://www.harborfreight.com/3-in-1-jump-start-air-compressor-8884.html

On the website it's listed for $59.99, but in the store it's listed for $69.99. I asked someone about it, and they said you have to speak to the manager and the would consider price matching it. If they decide to price match it, you can't use the 20% coupon.

I was under the impression that the website wasn't a different "entity" from the stores themselves, so price matching won't have been an issue, and either way you could still use the 20% coupon after that.

Has this happened to anyone else?

It's the same issue with three of the other products I went to buy yesterday evening. I just left feeling annoyed and irritated.

Has anyone else had this problem...where they price matched it, and you could then use the 20% off?

I thought the website and stores were all part of harbor freight, and pricing would therefore be consistent...soo them price matching wouldn't be anything special which would then result in them not allowing the 20% coupon...it doesn't really make sense, they are "price matching" their own prices, and then using that as as reason to not allow their coupon?.... :S

I was particularly irritated because I drove from Toronto to Buffalo, just to go to harbor freight, and then have them try to make sense of nonsense.

I beleive the stuff on the net is cheaper, but shipping makes up the difference. A lot of stores will have "online only" prices, not uncommon.

I have been able to use the 20% coupon on top of internet price matching, however ymmv.
Like everything else it depends on the mood of the person you are dealing with at that particular moment.

HF is weird. They'll have an in store price, online price, and two or more different coupon prices on the same item at the same time. Sometimes the 20%off an online price is better than a coupon price. At my local HF, if you print out the online price, they'll match that.

I have online price matched, but didn't have a coupon. My suggestion: Print the online page, bring your coupon, and talk to someone else, preferably someone that looks like they hate their job, or maybe a stoner. Alternatively wait for it to go on sale, and use your coupon on top of that.

HF pricing is just messed the F up.

Ive had issues a couple times...

Get everything you are looking to buy have them ring it all up.. Then have them match the online price and coupon.. If they question it and say they cant I just say never mind I will just order it on your website for the correct price... They will either just match it or get a manager.

I am not an jerk about it or anything... Just always willing to leave without buying it. although I haven't had to yet..

Better yet, go online, put the item in your shopping cart at the lower price, apply the 20% coupon code, print out the cart showing the reduced price and present it at the store. I can't imagine that anybody would argue price if you did that.

Hmm...i was thinking just that, so i went to my car...pulled it up on my phone, added everything to the cart, shipping was just around $14 for all the items, then i entered the coupon code, but for some reason it won't go through. The coupon i was using expires in May.

Are there special 20% off online coupons? Or do you guys use the regular ones for your online purchases?

The stores I've been to also have worked like that. If you print out the online price, they'll match it. Then the 20% reduction from your other coupon is applicable to the lower price. But I suspect it's up to the manager -- who answers to the franchisee.

I had the problem once, the tag said 129.99 and the online said 99.99. I took it to the register and told them, they said they would call the manager but when they scanned the bar code it rang up as the online price and not store price. maybe they didnt change the price tags??

Another weird thing I have noticed is that one store will already have the online price in their computer, but a different store may not.
I have also been able to get the online price by pulling up their site on my phone, but they seem to prefer a print out.

When i worked at HF they would give lower price plus the coupon off. But that was 4 years ago. Which one do you work at John?

Alright, i guess i'll give it another whack...hopefully all goes well. I'm thinking i'll get one of the tool carts as well, this time. :)

I was wondering if anyone had a look at the new 26" tool chest that they have for $349...what was your impression of it? I tend to depend heavily on the opinions in here for advice on buying tools since..my knowledge and experience is limited...i'm a med student. :)
