Where did you get your socket trays? Please don't tell me you made them yourself unless you have a site that you are selling them on.

Pat made them in-house. He has some more pictures on his project thread. Pretty cool stuff. I drool over them every time I see them.

Sorry no Web-Site...yes I did make them. My brother and I own a Sheet Metal Fabrication Business thus I have an advantage.

These were made in my Home Shop...the GDS Skunkworks:

https://www.garagejournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=398490

The unfortunate side is every set is different and thus each set has to measured on it's own. Even over time the diameters change with in a set based on the "Blank" they start with. The Challenge.

But we are working with a Company to develop a Tool Storage System which will knock your socks off if it takes off. I cannot disclose more about the product line at this time but it will be cool.

Thank you Mike!!! I am humbled by the Master Fabricator himself.

New cart setup. Mostly VIM Magrails. Drawer was cramped and I realized I rarely used SAE so I moved all the SAE except 1/4 to my larger toolbox.

Now I just need a better way to organize extensions.

Incomplete yet jammed packed full of stuff that don’t need to be there. Can’t wait for my next addition to the garage which will add a lot more storage and organization by way of a 36” wide top and bottom.

My 3/8 drawer, there's usually a tray of extensions at the front of the drawer, but that ended up in the barn right now.

Harbor Freight sells that style too, and for half the price:

https://www.harborfreight.com/3-pc-socket-rail-set-68101.html

I use those exact magnetic rails that m6z mentioned for my impact sockets - they’re pricey, but fantastic IMO. I got lucky and and scored the rails I needed for 30% off “manager discount” because they were missing a few of the socket mounts.

Mine are laid out in different drawers because of the layout of my Lista box. The rails are mostly Craftsman plastic, but I'm looking at swapping to the Olsa Tools aluminum rails. The gaps in the 1/2" chrome will soon be filled, Wiha just shiped my backordered 1/2" sets yesterday.

Here's mine, the main drawer and the overflow drawer. I need to work on them both.

I see a lot of red for SAE or blue for Metric. Astro Pneumatic color codes their sets with black for SAE and blue for metric. Sears used to do black for SAE and gray for metric. I’m torn between the red or black for SAE, but definitely blue for metric. The Olsa tools rails I’m looking at with the locking end clips come in red, blue, or black. Their standard end cap rails come in more colors like green, orange, and yellow. All in I’m going to be spending $240 on socket rails to redo what I have now, so that money may not get spent as my old Craftsman rails work.

I just got a color printer again, so I’ll likely be color coding the drawer labels on whatever standard I choose.

Eventually when I upgrade to a new box with a wider top drawer I'll decide on a more cohesive socket organization system. It will be between the orange Hansen made Snap-on trays or the Westling Machine trays. The one thing I won't change though is the MAC bit socket and Snap-on ratchet and extension blow molded trays. I love the organization and tool control they provide.be0543b365452cef85362aea56b20af8.jpg

This is only up to 1/2", the 3/4" and 1" are elsewhere.

One drawer MM and one drawer SAE. 95% Snappy with some other neat stuff mixed in.

I'll join in. This is by far the heaviest concentration of HF tools in the entire shop. I love the Pittsburgh Pro ratchets so, you see that they kind of dominate the picture. This is the top of my 5 drawer.

I’m not trying to be a snob; I’m a HF owner too but what is the value of that top drawer after all of the 20-30% off coupons etc. $400? Lol
The SnapOn guys paid more than $400 in sales tax.

LOL if that. After coupons I think the Pitts Pro ratchets were right around $100. IIRC the Gearwrech Flex Head ratchets were $75ish. I can't remember how much I have in sockets but not tons of $$$. There is another drawer with impact sockets. The socket rails are 3d printed and I would imagine they cost me $10 in filament. LOL

I'm a shade tree mechanic so, I don't need the best mechanic tools. If I were to turn the camera around to the rest of my shop it is much more impressive with professional level woodworking tools.

Top drawer is my go-to drawer. A little messy at the moment but close to what I like.

There should be a Tool Box Organization Sticky created...
Who makes those wrench holders? That's the exact style I'm looking for.

Here’s my main shop box, 1/2drive and down. All the 3/4 and up have their own drawer. I just bought this hf 44” 6 months ago to empty the contents of a service truck into, and the damn thing is already full. Shoulda bought the bigger one:headshake
