Ok I have obviously overlooked this step so here it goes...my plan was to put a 60 gallon puma in the southeast corner of my barn, i ran 10/2 in that corner before i insulated. The panel is on west side wal, the wire run is approximately 35 feet. I didnt even think about voltage drop or anything. So my question is this too far a run and am I gonna have to step it up to bigger gauge wire? What is the general rule of thumb here:dunno: Im stuck between 2 pumas.. one is 17 amp motor and the other is 19. I havent bought one yet so if I need to make changes, id like to now and be right than F something up! Any suggestions?:dunno:

I get 1.11% voltage drop while running for the 19 amp motor, and even assuming a 100 amp start up surge, it's still about 5%. You should be fine.

Cyber- I used 10 gauge wire black and white are HOT and green is GROUND...if that helps any..i used the same stuff to wire my Challenger 2post with no issues but was a shorter run from panel to lift. Bought about 100 foot roll at a garage sale for $10!!!

Which ever unit you choose to buy, the wire will work fine for the distances you mentioned, it's only after about 100' do you need to think larger wire for the amps you are going to use. Since you say both the wht/blk wires are hot, I presume a 240 volt system is being used with a dedicated ground. Good buy on the wire! Just make sure it's made for your voltage or higher as usually marked on the insulation.

If you used NM cable, black & white being used for hots is fine as long as the white conductor is reidentified, if in a conduit it is a code violation.
