how far to keep fan away from lights to avoid shadows

Have a 26wx21dx17h space want to do led strips on the ceiling. 3 rows maybe , and have a 96" fan inbetween two of the rows of lights. ANy guideline on how far to keep the fan away from the lights to avoid shadows when the fan is running? The fan will be on a 5 or 6' drop appx.

I think it depends on how much other makeup light there is coming from other directions....but I don't know how to quantify it.

I would avoid the circle projected onto the ceiling. If you are having problems you can increase lights in that specific area.

If you have a lot of light sources, such as the LED strip lights you're talking about installing, I don't think you'll notice much of a "strobe effect" from the ceiling fan.

The strobe effect from ceiling fans is really only apparent in residential settings where there's only a few light bulbs. With 4' fixtures I don't think you'll notice it.

thanks guys, that gives me the confidence to proceed with my garage project.

I think along the lines of your suggestions, with the many light sources I think I may add some under cabinet counter light strips along my work bench - the old eyes brighter is better when looking at the little stuff - ha. I am finally getting excited about this. I am designing my workbench my self it will be 21' wide wall to wall with cabinets under and over. Can't wait.

We have 24, 4 lamp fixtures in a 40x60x17 with 4, 60" Emerson fans. Fans aren't under any lights. No strobe. I was paranoid about that.

There may be pic on my thread. Photobucket blocked all my pics and I have been slowly rebuilding the thread.

Within a couple of feet. Also the fans are on about the same plane as the lights.

Arghh. So ceiling mounting the lights might not work as shadow free? Especially with a 4' drop on the fan.

If lights are higher than the fans and in the blade path... You will most likely get the "strobe" effect.
