Damage special at a lowes near me. I'd never pay full price for this but I'm thinking if I could get it for under 1k it might be worth it.

Rivets fail when overloaded. Mine lasted 4 years. Decent for light duty, but I would not buy again.

Personally I think the stainless would be tough to keep up and that a painted toolbox would be much easier to clean and not show grease and fingerprints as much as stainless. No comment on the box though. I'm a home user and my craftsman 26" ball bearing stack works for me. (which basically invalidates my opinion on this forum. ) Mine doesn't roll all over my garage though and have its drawers opened and slammed all day, every day.

I have the older version and have had it for 4 years and its pretty overloaded. I have had ZERO issues with it. I dont care what the HF lovers say its a capable box and just as good quality wise if not better than the 44" HF. I.bought mine for.1k on closeout 4 years ago. I have had no broken rivets or welds and the slides and detents still work like new. I would buy it again. The only box i would buy for around the same money would be the.56" combo or the 72" from HF.

If you like the look of stainless, and plan to keep it clean, then sure consider it.

Seen one before at retired guy's house selling stuff on CL. He had it pretty well loaded up and had no complaints, but was light use DIY as he wasn't opening & closing every day. I tried to get him to sell with "sweeten the pot" deal of bunch of Craftsman items. He would not sell it.

Not many choices for that stainless look, so your call on what you'll spend. If you love it, then $1,000 to $1,200 may work since it's damaged. However, if you're mostly needing a double-stack for heavy toolbox access everyday, then maybe $800 or less should be your cutoff as $1500 to $1800 could get you used truck brand painted tool box if you really hawk CL.

Good luck with your decision.

I have one similar and I love it but I also paid $400 for the top and bottom. The only issue I have with it is the drawer ends are stupid plastic pieces that come off but the box itself is great

Its a good box but for $1000.00 you can buy much better box at Harbor Freight and still have money left for pizza and beer.

Yeah the stereo I figure you're paying big extra for. I just saw those beefy casters and thought well maybe these are heavier duty than I thought.

I have the smaller version of this box which is now 3-years old and looks brand new. I am a hobbyist and don't get in it everyday or overload it.

i say buy whatever you like.. and how bad can it be to keep clean? its on display at a home center with 100 different people touching it everyday.. you are gonna pay extra for the S/S finish, but thats true of no matter what brand.. i think theres a waterloo that sells for about 2k thats about that same size..

I know the stereo is kinda gimmicky but it is actually pretty useful in a homeowner box. I use it everytime i do any work in the garage. I hook up my phone and listen to Satellite radio and other stuff. It gets plenty loud for the garage. I actually like the new style boxes better than the.one i.have. It is also deeper than the HF box as well. Keep that in mind if you dont have the room that way

Decent sized SS box with 99lb drawers but I've seen bigger markdowns at Lowes for large bulky items thats got to go and would probably wait a bit more. Spending a grand+ on damaged goods is troubling for me, my 2 cents.

The "damage" is a bent hutch lip so it won't lock.

I could fix it in under an hour likely.

I wouldn't pay more than $300-500 for it myself. No-name boxes aren't really worth that much, and the swill that is sold at box stores definitely isn't the cream of the crop!

Not likely I get it. Just getting antsy living out of the HF 5 drawer tool cart right now.

y'all think the radio is a gimmick?
a few years ago they sold a larger model that one of the bottom sections was a mini fridge:lol:
ive played w/ these boxes in person and they seemed OK for home use.
like others have said it's ok if you know its limitations or are honest with what you want out of it.

i dont think the radio is that "gimmicky". seriously - how many pictures or "tool box tour" videos have you seen when a guy that has a SO box with a hutch on it, has a radio or speakers for an mp3 inside? i think its a good consoldition of space, as well as having charging points for your phone which i belive that model has.. if you spend a good amout of time in your garage or home shop i think its pretty useful. it keeps more items off the work bench or shelves. i would have liked to see the speakers in the inside of the hutch door though. this way they would be clear of anything stored inside the hutch when open.. lets not forget - this is for home.. i woudlnt spend the money they ask for it at retail price, but i still think its a cool box...

im sure guys would make fun of it in a professional shop, unless it was in a snap on box with a bose stereo.. then it would be awesome..

I looked at that box last week. It does have deeper drawers but I couldn't justify the purchase at $1600. Even at $1200 it's still a little steep to me. At $1000 I might have bit.

I just bought this one tonight -

The drawers aren't as deep and it won't hold as much as the Lowe's box; doesn't have a stereo or stainless finish. But for the price I felt it was a good buy. At that price you could buy two.

In the end, however, you have to do what makes you happy. If the Lowe's box is the one that floats your boat - buy it.

For light duty use... why not. For professional daily use.. I probably wouldn't waste my cash and would buy a smaller truck branded used box of CL. However for home use I'm in the "buy what you want" crowd as most people don't really beat on a box at home that much and a lot of them just end up being garage jewelry cases.

If you're not set on that box, watch zoro for their sales. I recently picked up a proto top and bottom box for $1100ish. Much better quality in my opinion.

I got one last year for 965. No issues so far. Of course it isnt "professional grade", but it isnt professional grade price either.

IMO it "feels" better quality than the HF 44. That is what I planned on buying, but at the store they felt more flimsy. Im not sure if HF is getting cheaper or what, but their boxes didnt seem as good as everyone was making them out to be.

Looks like that box is the newer recessed drawer pulls. I was playing around with one at the store and it felt like space for your fingers to grab the pull was shallow and not much room (which might be an issue if you wear mechanix gloves). I have an older Kobalt black 27" 6 drawer rolling cab, intermediate, top box set-up and like the drawer pulls better. I went through and re-greased all the slides with a tube of Super Lube from HF, which dramatically helped how smooth the draws opened/closed when loaded.
