I had a swamp cooler (big one) in my fabrication/ machining shop. Tons of equipment and raw metal materials. Don't remember seeing any rust on any of it. Dunno why. If had a choice, I'd go dry cool. My .02

Here on Long Island, it's been absolutely brutal this summer. I work at a dealer. The shop where I am is this old building with a rounded roof and two large roll up doors at either end. No insulation really and a black shingle roof. Temps outside have been between 90-105 in the last several weeks with what seems like 95% humidity. Two weeks ago when we had that friggin' heatwave the thermostat on the wall read 101 for several hours one afternoon. We have big fans and all the doors stay open but it doesn't really help. Today was 96 between 2:00 and 5:00 pm.

And to put the cherry on top of the sundae, we recently just got new uniforms. My ***** boss goes on this insane power trip and decides that on the hottest day of the year he was going to bust balls about wearing full uniforms. You know, standard Dickies-style work pants and company shirts. The shirts are 85% polyester and don't breathe, it's like wearing a damned tarp. Up to this point we'd been wearing shorts and t-shirts for years. He comes out in to the shop, carries on for 10 minutes then goes back in to his nice, air conditioned office.

I must be paying penance for some bad deed I did in a past life.

Unfortunately when our house was built the AC was vented into the garage. Yikes. We have had 105-110 in there for the better part of 3 weeks. I am barely leaving the house any more. That heart attack and being in the hospital all of May really screwed with my system this year. I just can't take the heat.

This is from last Saturday, it went to 102 but wasn't too bad as humidity was only 40-50. I can work comfortably in the garage with a couple fans running. The last two days here it has been 95-96 with humidity 70-80. That makes the "heat index" around 105. That is uncomfortable even in the shade. I can't fathom how roofers and road builders spend all day in the sun.
