How I made a simple sheet metal bender

My current project (pedal tractor for my grand kids) is going to require some basic sheet metal fabrication hence the need for a bender. I copied the idea from a You Tube video, modifying it to suit my needs. Since I will only be bending 20g or 18g I used 1/8" X 1 1/2" angle and it has worked just fine with no deflection.

Thanks for posting this.

Would you post a photo of the hinge system.

This is just what I need for a custom application

I'd like to see how you hinged it as well. Thanks

Love it...pretty simple, but effective. The springs on the clamp leaf is a really good idea.

(It could be this one, as reference)

The hinge is fairly simple. The most difficult and critical is part centering the pins which required grinding the channel iron for clearance and notching the angle for welding. I clamped the angle in place and tack welded the pins into their correct position making sure to use a straight edge to keep them in alignment. The pin pivots in the end plate which makes it easier to align then weld in place.

Here is the youtube link:

Would you mind listing the parts? Is all made out of it angle? Or did you use a flat bar for the bottom?

The top piece is easy to understand. Looks like one angle piece, width of the brake, with two 3-4" pieces of angle welded on with holes drilled.

However the piece that it's bolted to, is that flat bar or angle?

Where did you find the springs?

Nice build, thanks
