How important are the half sizes on hex wrenches?

Anyone use them a lot??


Need to purchase a quality hex wrench set. I’m interested in the 14pc by Bondhus, it includes the 3.5, 4.5, 5.5 sizes. Most of the standard hex sets(I’ve seen) are 9pc and only include one or two of the half sizes.

How important are they? They become important when you come across a head that needs those sizes. When you do, it's important that you have that half size.

they are within a dollar of each other on amazon when i was purchasing them. i got the set with the half sizes. i think like 50c more

More is better, but I don't have a clue what might use them, and the smaller stuff I tend to overlap with "jeweler" type sets.

they come in handy when the correct size strips out and you drive the the next larger half size in and remove the damaged bolt

I've only ever used 2.5mm as a half-size. Even that was pretty scarce. I have a 5.5mm socket, for a single application (heater boxes), but again it's unusual.

i assume the 5.5mm is fairly common as it is included in a lot of sets.

Look at it this way, they are being made for a reason.

I have used 5.5 mm on screws many times but a 7/32 works just as well. 7/32 is .21875 of an inch and 5.5mm is approximately .2165 of an inch so the difference is only .0022
