Definitely fake. Here's a teardown of some of those fake ones:

They look like Mitutoyos but underneath it's the same thing you'd get from Harbor Freight.

I made up my own version! Too bad it's not real. Big laughs.

Good video, I like this guy - he knows what he is talking about. Measuring the current draw really gave it away. The cheap calipers are always out of batteries when I grab them.

My proper thanks is not to buy anything made in China for the next 6 months.. or more.

Thanks guys.

The thing that really bothers me is not that he's selling fake stuff, but that he's selling fake stuff and his feedback rating is 100% positive.

I find this all the time on ebay. And not just things like this where it might be somewhat harder to spot that it's fake, I'm talking about things like 6000 mA-hr batteries that if you measure are lucky to make 1500 mA-hr, or 60/40 solder that doesn't melt or flow like any other 60/40 solder I've ever used (turns to semi-sold mush on the end of your iron) etc. Real obviously substandard fake junk, and yet the guys still have a 99% plus positive feedback. Grrr :wtf:

In other words they're free. Counterfeit items are a 100% refund to the buyer without having to send them back.

Agreed, and yes I noticed the good feedback this seller has - and all he is selling is fake calipers! But like the guy in the video said, these are really nice fakes and well done.

I usually try to actually test the stuff I buy on Ebay before giving feedback.

Only 37 ratings though... These guys just sell like crazy until they get bad feedback and just make a new user name and keep going.

Shipping is $19.99. It looks like they're making a little profit there.

Not really. eBay (AKA Fee-Bay) now adds a Final Value Fee (FVF) to shipping charges as well as to the final auction price. If you offer free shipping there is no additional FVF on shipping.

He might know what he's talking about, but he's got to be the world's worst videographer. I was almost seasick by the time he was done.

I found the commentary amusing and engaging. It's all what you choose to focus on.
