Interestingly enough, in the combination wrench video they alternate between showing SO wrenches and Bahco wrenches being made. Years ago I was in the plant up in Dallas - I think it's a Danaher plant, now - where they were making sockets and got to see a lot of this first-hand.

i also found it interesting that they showed an emloyee at the ratchet plant and he wasn't asian he was american. that should clear up some things around here :lol_hitti

But they didn`t show how they make the gear assembly :p  :lol_hitti :D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D:D

yeah, i think the gear assemblies have been out sourced since the inception of the 20 tooth ratchet:bounce: probably from a US supplier though.

while i don't dispute that the gear assy is from taiwan, there are some here who have the belief that the whole ratchet is made in china and it simply isn't true.

I thought hot broached was the best way to make sockets, but then I am into the old stuff. I did not see heat when the Snap-On sockets were being formed.

I wonder how long SO has been using trivalent chrome? I'm certainly no expert in plating though I've been getting parts plated for years. Seems like the good stuff, especially in California (but maybe all over the US), is getting harder to find?

My SO driver and I were talking, not too long ago, about the quality of SO chrome on newer stuff, and how it doesn't have that same finish as the older stuff he sold in the 90's.

when I asked my SO dealer WHY? they don't put usa on the handles like they use to he answered the ratchets are completley made in the US, but since SO is in global markets the "MADE IN USA" stamp may "AFFEND" some of their clients over seas who don't like us, so they opt to leave that out as this is an experiment to the rest of the line.

the woman filming the incident, apparently, on the side of that bum, seems to think the SO guy is at fault.

I'm glad these videos are on youtube now. IIRC before they were only available by paid download.

I asked my dealer about this and he said that there was internal parts not made in the USA so even with one small part they cannot put USA on it. But it's mostly made of USA made parts.

snap on has a DVD of all the HOW its made series on one disk. I passed them out to a lot of my customers. they cost .89 cents each so I bought a bunch.
Why would you think all of our employees are not americans. You need to go to a plant and express that to the 100% american workers and see how fast they tar and feather you.
also USA stamp removal was made by a corporate person that is now in another part of snap on. So maybe in the future it will come back. Chad has pics of the first ones with the USA stamp on it. I have one and its tucked away in the box...
I went to the Olive branch mississippi distribution center and it was 100% american and they all spoke english as well.

Here are the FTC guidance for "Made in the USA"

http://www.ftc.gov/opp/madeusa2/62fr63755.pdf

In summary for something to have made in the USA put on it it must be "all or virtually all" made in the USA. What is funny though is that New Balance claims their sneakers are made in the USA even though they are really 70% made in the USA. They have been butting heads with the FTC for a while now. I'm sure Snap On would put USA on their tools (that are not marked USA) if they could.
