My wife will step out in the garage from time to time and ask "whatcha doin?"
I will answer "organizing"
and she just laughs and says "that is ALL you ever do out here..."
She claims I just move **** back and forth and she can not ever see a difference.

My shop is not now nor will it ever be organized enough to make me stop organizing and rearranging. It's one of those crosses I have to bear I guess. I'm sure part of it's OCD but a lot of it comes from simply being human. It's close enough that I'm content with it and can be productive in my shop. I don't mind it too much as I look at organizing as just another project.

The issue is I always make just a bit more of a mess than I organized. So it never ends.

I've been in my house for 12 years and have redone my garage countless times. I believe it's current configuration is one I can be happy with, so no plans to change it anytime soon. When talking about organization and everything related to that, the way I look at it is this - when friends, family or customers see my workspace, I enjoy hearing the comment, "It looks like you work in here". To me, that's what it's all about, actually USING the space that I've spent years setting up. Every tool may not find it's way back to it's "spot" right away, but when I've decided to clean up the space because there may be a few too many things out of place, I really enjoy that time because I take pride in the work I've done to necessitate the need to clean up.

Usually takes me about an hour to get it back to where it needs to be.

I didn't even really want to open this thread since it's the very thing that's been crippling me for the past two years. It's so damn depressing looking at the mess that most of the time I get nothing done and just walk away. I'm almost to the point of just boxing stuff up and sticking it in the corner.

This^^^. Mine is never ending. I find I keep moving stuff from the garage to the basement workshop and back again. Now the garage is really a mess since I had to replace a beam. Stuff is EVERYWHERE! :eyecrazy:
To answer Bull's question: No. Unless you are super OCD or only use your space as a showplace for your stuff, it will never be done!:willy_nil

I've been organizing my garage for the past 25 years, which, Hmmm, :headscrat just happens to be how long I've lived here. I consider it to be an evolutionary thing, and what I do in it today has nothing to do with what I did the first few years, and nothing to do with what I did 10-12 years ago, and certainly not what I want out of it in the next major reorg. :3gears:
