Expanding a planter for my wife and went to test fit the last board and it came up 3/4” short. Put the tape on it and it measured 9’11-1/4”. Saturday afternoon after the local lumberyard was closed of course.

My understanding is that you should expect them to be at least the nominal length. Is that correct?

My experience has always been that deminsion lumber runs anywhere from an 1/8" to 1/4" long. Being 3/4" short tells me that someone cut it to length and the returned it.

Yelp, been working in the lumber building material field for almost 20 years now, the only thing that should be exact measurement are pre-cut studs.

Everything else will be like mentioned above and run about 1/4"-1/2" long.
