Just moved into a new house . Panel is 200amps and pretty maxed out everything being electric.
My question is at a green box outside house where service is initiated .Is it common to have a good amount of room to expand without too much trouble? I want to know if there will be enough available power to power shop in future.:shocking:

200 amps should be enough power, just add a sub panel. You don't want to mess with the green box outside and I'm pretty sure that is for power company only. Usually if you open it up there is no protection on anything.

First things first.

You need to do a load calc on your home. The other method is recording your usage over a 30 day period.

Then you determine if you use the existing service or upgrade it. Or add another service.
