How Many Brands in Your Main Home Socket Set?

It is different for the work ones, but I was looking at my 1/2 socket set at home. It has evolved over the years from pieces of the work sets. When I looked I had a 21 piece socket set made up of the following brands.

1. John Deere
2. Craftsman
3. Proto
4. Proto Challenger
5. Thorsen
6. Wright
7. Vlchek
8. Kobalt
9. SK
10. Cornwell
11. Truecraft - Japan
12. New Britian

Too bad I looked, the siren call of a new tool set will most likely try to catch me.

snapon, craftsman,sk,proto,wright,mac,cornwell,armstrong,stanley,westward,pittsburg,ampro,gm goodwrench,blackhawk,bahco, and a few others with no stampings other than size and that seems to be a lie.the cheaper ones were from when i was a kid and didnt have cash. now i try to purchase top quality stuff as my life depends on it.

My sockets are currently split 50/50 Mac & Craftsman. I'm slowly upgrading my sockets to be eventually all Mac.

Full sets of SK, Craftsman, Matco, Snap On, Cornwell and Blackhawk. Individuals for a few others. Each brand has its strong and weak points to them. Its all about identifying YOUR needs.

Same wife for 20 years and same brand tools for 25 , i guess i like to stick with a good thing.

I agree. I like to have a little first-hand experience with as many brands as possible. I have single sockets from Indestro, MAC, Snap On, FACOM, etc etc etc....

I think it would be easier to list the brands of sockets I don't own...

FACOM, Kobalt, Husky (I used to have a Husky US-made set from the 1960s), and that's about it.

that is hard to say because about half dont have anything on them but the size cheap import I suspect (I took my grandfathers tools when he died) all they ones I have bought have been Craftsman execpt for 1 great neck from auto zone that I needed to put the heads backs on my truck
and the Popular Mechanics brand set I bought as my first tools when I was around 12, 15 years ago at walmart

Mostly Craftsman (all chrome deep and shallow). My 1/2" deep impacts are IRs. My 3/8" impact set are SK. My internal torx are Husky and external torx are ampro.

To the best of my recollection:

1/4" drive 100 % Snap On

3/8" drive, 4 MAC, the rest Snap On

1/2" drive 1 Proto (cotton picker spindle socket) the rest Snap On.

3/4" drive 2 Proto, the rest Snap On

3/8" drive, 4 MAC, the rest Snap On (The MAC impact sockets are somewhat slimmer than the Snap on ones at the time I bought them, plus they had knurling on them).

1/2" drive 1 Proto (cotton picker spindle socket) the rest Snap On. (A cotton picker spindle is very long, and requires an extra deep socket).

3/4" drive 2 Proto, the rest Snap On (The 2 Protos were used to change out the blanking plugs in our LT-20 control heads to install the thread protector when running wireline thru them)
